CA Need some opinions

Hi I'm new to the forums and rx-7's in general. Im really interested in getting my hands on a first gen. It would need to be something that is in fairly good condition because it would be my daily driver, but I also want something that would be a good building block to mod . I came across this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...spagenameZWDVW. The guy said he is willing to sell locally for $8000. Is that a reasonable price for one in this condition.
I guess im just looking for some advice on it.

he is asking to much for that car IMHO. For that $$$, just pick up a shell for less than $500 and spend the rest on a rebuilt motor and paint. If you need help, LMK. I aint that far from you.

Honestly, I would look for something cheaper. That might be a good option for an occasional drive or whatever, but for a DD it might not be a good option since you will rack up miles fast and greatly decrease its value.

Check the classifieds on here. There is one for 1st gens in general and you could also check the West section. You should be able to get a very nice GSL-SE for say 3k or so.

OR Spend that $$$ on an old school. I got one for sale. Buy it and I will even throw in rebuilt 12-A, carb, header, tranny, and everything you need to get it running.

I'd like nothing more than to have a project like that. Problem is I live in a condo, also working 60 hours a week leaves me little time to put the effort into something like that. I've seen decent SE's for around 3k but nothing in my area. Also being a DD wouldn't be putting alot of miles on it for me atleast. I maybe at the most put in 10 miles a day.

I'm not in any particular hurry to get into one. I just saw this one and thought it would be a good starter for me. But it is a large price for it.

I havent been one to work on cars a whole lot. My hobby up until now has been working on dirtbikes and stuff like that, but now im bored and want to step into working on cars. I figured a 1st gen 7 would be a good start for me, I wouldn't be going crazy with it, just some light mods and see were that takes me.

If anyone comes across a good one like what im looking for just send a pm.

If you have the cash sure. I think it's not too overpriced considering the condition.

edit: Just read your last post sorry. Yea look in the 1st gen there are plenty cheaper than that. It
had 60k original and that's ONLY reason he can ask $$$.

Well I can tell you that I have more than that in my car and it is not as rare as that one. I think the GSL SE without RED is more marketable. That being said, it would be a shame to use this as a daily driver....

I don't quite agree... I use my 82 as a DD and its so much fun. It really brightens my day and gives me enjoyment out of driving it. Its a feeling I can't say I feel in the minivan or the old Lexus; but that's just my opinion...

It is a clean looking car. I think its a little over priced but not rediculously so. It sounds like alot of maitenance has been done recently ish, and the fact that it passed emissions easily is fairly respectable for the cali buyers.

Yea because they are not as old. Once old vehicles hit a certain point unless you give them constant TLC and maint there only fate is the junkyard to rust or the crusher.

I have driven a 86 and enjoyed it. I think the 1st gen's do get more looks nowdays and just feels neat to be rare. .. Ok so I am biased.

Since you said you're looking to mod, go for a 2nd gen. There's a lot more aftermarket upgrades for it.

Found this one in my area : 2nd gen rx7

He wants 10,500 which seems pretty high, but it looks pretty clean.
