Got done painting the covers and screws. I just stuck this one on, and did not screw it in (since I will have to take it back off anyways). Flash, as usual, makes it look extremely shiny. There isn't as much razzle dazzle as the photo makes it out to be.

It looks like the headlight lid's are pretty much welded on. I can't get the screw (why in the hell they used a screw in the first place I don't know) out without halfway stripping it.

Does anyone know if there is another way to get the headlight motor out?

Came from Rob at ROTARYSHACK! He even threw in a set of E-tubes and main jets, the specs on the carb, and a free "movie" . Thanks Rob! I can't wait to put it on, I need to get soem freeze plugs and I will be set.

Yeah it does! The wiring is complete for the most part, I just want to solder (sp?) it in place then shrinkwrap... then electrical tape... then loom...

I totally forgot about the X-01 harness.

Hint on electrical tape: Eastwood makes TWO types designed for automotive (one adhesive, one not) that are FAR superior to the store-bought household stuff. Really nice to work and wrap with!!!! make your wiring finish real tidy...

I've always taken mine out from the engine compartment side, Stu. carefully unclip the final operating rod, & unbolt. Pay close attention to the cable routing because space is tight around the motors.

 

What paint you use on the headlight covers?

 

99c Walmart Gloss black. I decided not to clear over it, I like the "flat"ish look of it.

YES! That is what I like to hear! Maybe I will get something done today. I pushed the grommet through the firewall and felt it stop. Going to measure the hole and prepare to cut another one.

Good call on the tape. I have about 4 rolls of black tape, I might spring for the unsticky stuff.

The carb looks great, just need to find a way to mount a throttle cable bracket.

 

Got the headlight motor out yesterday and began painting it gloss black. Same paint as the headlight surrounds were painted. Cleaned off all the grit and grime from the motor and its appendages and began to paint it. Got some on the wires, but a little WD-40 gets rid of the spray paint. A little tip for those who didn't know

I still have to brass wheel the 3 bolts and 1 nut that hold the motor down. It would look good being a shiny silver on the black motor. I also did the same for the metallic strap that holds itself around the cylinder at the top of the motor.

 

So, do you that you will have the car driveable in the next couple weeks?

really clean looking. So did you end up running the main harness through the fender/framerail? Any close up pics of the harness connector you used? I Repainted my engine bay, and de-loomed all the wires looking at doing this exactly.... that was 6 months ago. now it just looks like a huge rats nest until I get to it!

 

i used the same wire harness just stripped it to the esentials and cleaned it up heres a pic

 

i need to do this, was it are getting the motors out?

No it isn't too hard. Putting them back on though... I broke one of the plastic clips already

 

i think if i am going to clean up mine i will buy the clips as suggested in your other thread. just as a back up.
