LED Corner Lights

Hey guys,

As some of you may know I have a set of Australian spec front corner lights on my SA that have the seperate running and signal lights. Well I picked up some bright white LED 194's for the running lights instead of the regular 194 incandescant bulb. It definitely makes a difference and I am pleased, especially given that they are eBay lights. The key to getting the proper LED bulb is to get one that has multiple LED's, placed not only at the top but also along the sides and maybe even the bottom if you can find them. This is important because the LED project light straight forward, and having LED's placed on the sides help reflect the light off of the reflective housing and give a brighter light output. Sorry to babble on, here are the pictures!

Do these include or require an extra resistor to work? How much did they cost? Who was the ebay seller? They look brighter for sure.

No resistors needed since they aren't used to signals, only running lights. Here is the link to the eBay page that I have saved.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/194-1...QQcmdZViewItem I'm also waiting on a DE3021 white LED for my dome light to come in. I may try a set of LED 1157's for the brake lights just to see how big a difference it could be

That's partly what I'm looking for- AU parking light to replace my flash to pass on my 87 and the turn signals. I've tried ebay with no luck.

The turn signals and FTP lenses are completely seperate on the FC's. The Aus lights for the FC are almost identical to these for the SA but the FTP is something left untouched, unless you were reffering to the FTP used in Japan that are lighted

My mistake on description- either AU turn signals or FTP from Japan.

Hey -666
let us know how the LED BRAKE lights work out - I bought some last year and was VERY disappointed! Other drivers were telling me my brake lights were NOT working (ie, too dim) in daylight. I'd bought the 18 LED array-type with the red-output bulbs, etc but no joy. Obviously SOMEone is making these little bastids bright enough for new OEM car installs, but the aftermarket tech has yet to catch up... or...??
Be very curious to find out how you do!

Stu, I got the LED brake lights in and although I'm not disapointed, they aren't what I expected. If I remember, I'll get some pictures of the ones I have. The ones with only the LEDs pointing outward suck. The ones I have are pointed around the sides too to help reflect off the housing. I'll pick up some new 1157 bulbs and do comparison shots too tomorrow. When I repleaced them, they were the original Japanese bulbs from 1979! I also did the reverse lights. I still need to do the liscense plate bulbs and the guage cluster

Okay here's how the comparison went. It looks like a much greater difference in the pictures but it's not quite that much. Like I said, I wasn't exactly disapointed but defintely not what I was expecting. The LED's I used have 39 LED's in them and they are red in color instead of white. I did this because I didn't want the light to look pink. I ordered a new set last night that have 63 LED's in them and I ordered the white ones this time so I'm hoping for a better result!

EDIT: I guess I should mention that the LED bulb is in the passenger side and driver side is a standard 1157 incandescant

The brake leds you bought, do they point backwards as well as forwards? Looks like the LED are not taking advantage of the reflector.

I forgot to get a picture of the LED bulb itself but it has about 12 pointing outward and the rest circle the bulb. I beleive you are right though about the reflectors as they don't have any that point backwards towards the base of the bulb

Perhaps a better judge of LED brightness performance is in DAYLIGHT? That is where everyone told me I had "no" brake lights. I think with my LEDs, if you looked at night, and were DIRECTLY behind (and at the same LEVEL as) my taillights, they looked pretty bright - but daytime, and slightly off axis...?? maybe a different story?
Appreciate all your efforts to show us your work!
Thanks!

I look almost every 2 or 3 days- Aussies know about rotarys! I've watched some impresive footage on youtube. I can't FORGET about Puerto Rico, one garage made a rotary SEADOO! (12A)

Those front lights look really good. Do they look blue in person? Kinda blue in the pics. I would like to do something similar but don't want to be hassled for blue lights.

Holy old thread batman LOL. Yeah the pictures made them look much bluer than they were. In person they have a nice white to them with a hint of blue, almost HID esque. Now I'm on the hunt for the same signal lights for my S4!
