Quick question for you, I know that you have a 79 LE, you know that I have a couple also. Your work looks awesome, I mean this with absolute sincerity. On the 79 LE seats I was pretty sure the whole front face was the lite grey color. Both the LEs I have are done that way. Can I get backup from anyone else with an LE on this. I am not cutting you down I want to know so that when my LE gets redone it is redone right, also as much time effort and blood you have put into this model I know you would want it to be right also

Options were reprime or try something else . So I tried painting the black outline first and as it turns out I like it that way . I like to keep things true , but i am not really rigid on that . My LE seats need to be redone and I think I may consideer doing them like the model turned out . Then Gain , I still may redo the model .
The next real challenge is figuring out how to get all the orange lines of the rear glass defroster in there , also I have 30% tint on the rear glass on my LE and the orange heater lines really "pop" out now in color contast . This will be tough to get right . I also would like to be able to cutout the moonroof hole ..... yikes , not sure if that can be done .

A little update on the "Limited" model .
I've put two coats of paint and clear coat on the body and have just placed it on the undercarriage for the pictures . Not attached yet . The pictures actually make it look rougher than it is, and in the outside light, the colour looks closer to the real Limited metallic charcoal as opposed to more black under indoor light .
I love the felt in the back hatch area . makes me want to make the rear hatch open to see it . Also , my first attempt at the rear defroster lines on the inside of the plastic . These thin lines were cut from coloured translucent post-it notes from any stationary department . The glue is strong enough to keep them in place on the back glass grooves . I tried a few different things : thin lines ,thicker , and then two layers to make it darker . I think I will redo them with one single thin layer and a little more care getting the cut straight . It worked out well though .
For the overlay tint on top of the defroster lines I am going to try a light spray of black paint on one side of Saran Wrap and then use the static charge of the other side of the Saran to attach to the inside of the glass. I tried it unpainted and it WORKS !!!!. ( You can even leave a little bubble , just like most real tint
). But you can smooth out the bubbles if you are careful. We'll see if it actually works next weekend

I had a some time over a few beers to work on the models again at christmas .
I finished the 79 "Limited" monogram model , turned my RHD Lesney 79 car into a LHD 79 "Limited "
Also started my Tamiya 89 Vert .

Heres a few more shots of the side , back, and uber sexy "low front" shot ( screensaver anyone ? )
The two tone interior was a pretty close match to the Limited edition upholstery. I got carried away with accent though on the steering wheel and painted the spokes silver to match the radio surround
The tail lights turned out OK . I used some amber sticky "post it" ppaer to insert inside the plexiglass so it showed though the glass as opposed to being on the outside . The red section was made by just using a red sharpie marker on the orange paper. The front amber lenses came from the decal set that had some orange pieces for body decals I didnt use.
The rear glass opens with a narrow piece of Duct tape cut and glued to the hatch and body . the fold lets the hatch open . If I cant figure out how to make a micro mini gas shock I'll add it later

So the Lesney car I bought just didnt match the MONOGRAM version enough so I took it apart and fixed-er-up
The shots below give an idea of the stuff I needed to do this . The car had some wierd MAZDA decals on the hood and gold stripes on the doors that had to go and the biggest problem was the right hand drive . If you look close you can see the 1/32 " drill imbedded in the dash to make a new hole for the relocation of the steering wheel . .............. I should have been a surgeon !!

The interior also needed some work which included grey primer and black paint , some new black felt "carpet" to hide the yellow rear 2+2 seats in back and defroster lines on the badly yellowed plastic rear glass. ... note steering wheel in correct position now

The back drop was made from the plastic corner piece of a new basement shower I was supposed to build for the house over christmas . oooops .
The damn defrost lines fell off the Little one ... will need to fix up better, maybe next year .

And I just couldn't resist adding last years SA model , and the FD I hope to have one day for the 3 - Gen show .
The FD is a diecast , but plan to do as a plastic model next xmas .
This is a replica of the actual set of real 7's I hope to have one day ( when I grow up)
