I want to celebrate my GSL-SE's 40th birthday today, she came in Sparkling Black (H1) over red leather and was built on February 21st, 1985. Her port of entry was Port Hueneme, CA, and was sold at Jack Weber Mazda in Ventura county on May 2nd, 1985.. The first time I saw and RX7 was 1982 and I immediately fell in love with the car, but being in the Navy and not making a lot of money at the time I told myself that one day I would own one. Twelve years later, in September of 1994, I went out for breakfast one weekend to celebrate making Chief Petty Officer and picked-up the latest copy of the local Autotrader magazine to read. There on the front cover was a photo of a 1985 Mazda RX7 GSL-SE for sale and it was like fate had destined that this car was meant for me, four days later she was! I've had an amazing thirty-one year love affair with this car, and it's been my most successful relationship I might add :-). Time marches on and I'm not getting any younger so I'm going to sell her either this year or next, because she's a young mans car, and unfortunately I'm not that guy anymore. However, I'm a sentimental old guy and I wanted to take this opportunity recognize her birthday, and her importance to me the past thirty-plus years.
Circa 1999 Circa 2005 Finally found what I had been looking for!
Congratulations and Happy (car) Birthday! My SE came through the same port a little over a year prior to yours and is a January car. You've done a great job keeping it up all these years, and I'm hopeful you pass it onto a deserving buyer and give them this site. We'll be here to assist with maintenance and upkeep on your car from afar and for as long as we can.
Congratulations! I think you should keep her. I bet she can keep you feeling young and provide a purpose to stay active and engaged. I'm starting year 46 with my original car and love affair is still going strong!
Congrats! My car is on its 45th year (80 SA) and it was my first car out of college which I bought in in 1983, so 42 years in my care. Gotta love these cars. I hope it passes on to someone that can appreciate and maintain it.
Snow and ice is melting and potholes are blooming here right now, so it will still be a couple weeks before I can get it out of hibernation and take it for a spin LongDuck. I remember your post about you cars birthday, and made a mental note to do one when she hit 40! Hopefully, there will be someone that loves these cars like we do that gets her down the road.
I like the evolution of your wheels throughout the years. This set look very similar (if not the same) as the ones that I currently have on my 1980 (with GSL-SE suspension).
