We've seen so many cheap FB racers lately. Why do you think that's so?

As to why, I suspect folks started out in Spec rx7 or similar classes and have chosen to move on to something else. Younger folks are probably not so familiar with and fond of the 1st gen Rx7.

 

Yep, the "kids" like their Civics, Integras, and BRZ/FRS. And as far as club racing goes, the FB is pretty well outgunned in the various classes it can compete, whether it be by Miatas or FCs or something else.

 

in this are pro7 was really popular, so there are a lot of cars, and the people that ran em seem to have stopped racing (jobs? kids?), and so the cars are still out there, just sitting in garages.

 

For me the FB has two things going for it: 1) it's very affordable, and 2) a certain "cool" factor.

On the flip side, the cars are getting old, parts are becoming scarce and expensive, and there are some significant handling drawbacks, most obvious is the live rear axle.

Add to that engines which have a reputation for being finicky and delicate (deserved or not), and I think most folks are looking elsewhere.

Nonetheless, if there were a $2500 fully race-prepped FB in SoCal, I would probably buy it.

 

in Norcal you could probably pick up a pair of pro7 cars for $2500.....

they are cool, simple, and FUN.

the big problem is that "most folks" aren't playing with cars anymore.

 

So you think it's due to a general decline in club racing?

we could use some fresh blood, but it seems like the Pro7 people stopped racing, for whatever reason, and the cars have just been parked. vs like the honda challenge cars which just went back to the junkyard, or something
