Where do you get your parts for the 944 at Dave? Are they considerably more expensive than the Rx-7 parts? Just curious...

i buy parts from:

http://www.944online.com/cgi-bin/ASI....cgi?Dept+9441

http://www.paragon-products.com/Para...85_5_s/400.htm

http://www.pelicanparts.com/index.htm

the parts are expensive if you want oem stuff. quality aftermarket is usually what i can afford. some parts are expensive for the 944. the timing belt/water pump job can run almost $1000 in parts alone. o.e. brake rotors are like $175 each... i had my rear rotors turned yesterday, lol.

i don't know how adjustable the 944 is stock, but for most cars, the stock alimant isn't that great, and a GOOD performance alignment really makes a HUGE difference in how the car drives.

*i spent 10minutes looking and didn't find a good guide, but it looks like you can adjust camber/caster/toe in the front and ride height/camber and toe in the rear. ymmv, but even if you do stock, there is a tolerance there, and if it was mine i'd err on the minimum toe/max camber/max caster side of stock. *

I use pelican all the time for the wifes BMW. Never disappointed. I tried bavauto and
couple of others. With pelican I can tell exactly which part I'm getting and I know
they won't screw up the order or the shipping. Plus shipping is free if I bunch my
parts together.

I think you'll find that Sunset Porsche has some of the best prices on new parts, both replacement and Porsche factory accessories.

http://www.sunsetimports.com/parts/

Suncoast sometimes meets or betters Sunset, sometimes.

i replaced the bearings and seal and o-ring and repacked the cv. i bought the car, drove it home, and tore into the right rear. it was EXTREME neglect by the previous owner. while i was in there, i replaced, the rear pads, brake pad sensors, and had the rotors turned. i also ended up having to replace the stub axle as it was well worn. had a new oem one that i used. i'm going to replace the front pads and rotors and clean, inspect, and repack the front wheel bearings. then i'll bleed the brakes when thats all done. here are a couple pics i snapped while i was on the right rear assembly process:

when i did the left side, one of the brake pad retaining pins mushroomed and i had to cut the end off and i drove it out with a punch. i actually used a pin from an 88 RX-7 TII and ground it down and smoothed it by hand and redrilled the retaining hole so that it would fit the 944. i plan on using this only until my new pin comes in today ot tomorrow and its just for the brake bleeding process. i'll hang onto it as a spare in case i ever need one in an emergency. here are some pics:

944 pin on the left, temp pin on the right:

temp pin on the top:

i'm doing the front brakes now, replacing the pads and rotors and repacking the wheel bearings with fresh grease.
