how about this one?

THIS IS A 1980 RX7 WITH AC & A 5SPD. IT HAS A SUNROOF THAT CAN BE RAISED OR REMOVED AND PLACED IN THE FACTORY BAG FOR STORAGE. IT RUNS GOOD & IS REGISTERED UNTIL SEP 2012. IT HAS 127K ON IT SO THE DRIVERS SEAT NEEDS RECOVERING AND THE RIGHT DOOR IS DENTED. MIKE 650-323-8588 M - F 9 TO 5
it looks clean, price is good. i didn't know the door dents @127k though :headscratch: must be an SA thing
i'd almost buy, remove license plate frame and resell, i used to work @ that dealership

Not a bad project starter, and probably not much rust coming from Palo Alto. That right-side dent aft of the door is probably going to need a welded-in replacement section, though.
What you can see from the pics looks pretty complete and original. No engine shots. Price may be a touch high for condition - depends on engine condition.

Thats a nice original 80 GS with what looks like a fairly good interior including the door panels,
and the center console. I bet those dents can be pulled out and fixed up to be almost unnoticable.
Not a big fan of sunroofs. The price is ok if it starts and runs ok. Given its in CA and its inspected
that means it passed emissions (maybe).

One nice thing about the Smog ***** - - you can check up on the last inspections of a car if you have the license number:
http://www.bar.ca.gov/pubwebquery/ve...pubtstqry.aspx
Looks like this poor guy has been trying to pass smog (6 times since 7/2011) & failing...
He's probably running out of options... but he can't legally grant anything but a salvage/ORO title without a passed smog test within the last 90 days.
That final "Fail" but with a certificate probably means he's operating under a temp waiver - - which can't be transferred at sale.
Might run his price down a bit. I feel his pain.

Its old
I'd offer him $100.00 over whatever the junkyard will give him. Thats his only choice
in Cali it looks like.
God it sucks to own and old car there. I hear they didn't advance the cutoff for
emissions exception either now, so its still at 1975 or something like that.
No wonder Wacky doesn't do rx7s anymore and only does the old schools.

the CARB isn't elected, but has overriding authority to clean the air. they have been willing to poison the water to do it too.

I'm not 100% sure but my understanding is that the new title is vested in the state in which the new owner registers it; the car only has to meet the requirements of the registering state.
Such was the case with the Buick I inherited from my Dad; it was titled in Iowa but when I transferred ownership it got a CA title... and had to pass smog first.
In this case, it would seem to me that the old owner signs over the old CA title, and then the new owner gets a new title in whatever state he lives in, under that state's rules.

Ah OK so no different than getting one from any other state. I wasn't sure if CA's DMV (whatever you guys call it) actually held the title and wouldn't release it until certain criteria were met. I wouldn't think that's how it is, but then again you guys have some of the weirdest laws I've ever heard of when it comes to that stuff lol.
Reason I ask is because I'm hoping to someday have the extra money to buy a car from CA (or Arizona, New Mexico etc) that isn't rotted to hell and have it sent back here lol. Figured I might as well start my homework now....

salvage title is only applied when the car gets totaled by insurance or ends up at a junkyard. smog doesn't affect the title at all, except to have valid registration it needs a smog if its 76+

My understanding is that California will not issue street-legal registration to a car unless it passes whatever smog rules apply in the part of the state the new owner lives in, and the seller is legally responsible for any costs required to get the car to pass... UNLESS the car is transferred to a salvage title.
