SD Headlights!

Ive looked at and tried all the options I have here at the parts store I work at, and frankly standard headlamps just do not have the output I want.

Anyone have any suggestions beyond standard halogen headlamps?

I drive an 84 gsl-se as an everyday driver and work until well after dark in the winter months.

Thanks in advance for any direction to shop or suggestions to get more oomph out of a standard light set up.

(Im not opposed to adding fog lights, just dont want to until I figure out if im going to body kit or just replace the crappy bumper cover)

Adding relays to the lighting circuit makes a significant difference, beyond that, housings for H4 bulbs or projectors is your best bet.

Check out Black Dragon Auto. Their H4 conversion kit is highly respected and used around the forum here.

I have the black dragon conversion kit. It is very reasonably priced, plugs into the harness with no modification required, and significantly increases the output over stock. I also ordered a set of Phillips Diamond Vision bulbs. This upgrade is well worth the money.

I use the Black Dragon relay kit (72-040) with sealed relays from the parts store
Black Dragon Automotive - Parts & Accessories for Datsun 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, 280ZX & Mazda RX7

replaced the stock headlights with these and 80/100W H4 bulbs
Susquehanna MotorSports - Auto Performance Product

and these under the bumper with 100W H7 bulbs
HELLA 008284811 FF75 Series 12V/55W H7 Halogen Driving Lamp Kit : Amazon.com : Automotive

I live on a 1/2 mile long, unlit road with a canal at the end. I can see the 12" red reflectors at the end of the road when I turn on the high beams and driving lights.

I run the Black Dragon H4 conversion housings on both my FB's as well, it's well worth it (and DOT legal!). I wired up my own relay setup, this also helped notably.

One of these days I'll try different bulbs, but the one's they came with seem to work very well.

I did the Black Dragon relay upgrade and got a noticeable change. On coming COP cars will flash me if I have the brights on. And after adding bulb upgrade, strangers comment on how bright my headlights are.

Gotta watch out for the COPS now.

When I was using an SE alternator the voltage would drop down to below 13 with all the lights on. Stays around 14 with this alternator.

Nice.

Be nicer if they actually listed a US source. Also doesn't say if they are DOT approved or not.

They're also 500 Euros each? Almost $1400 for a pair?
