Don't be so critical. The mod appeals to a lot of owners due to their sense of style and their vision of what their ride should look like and reflection of their personality. In much the same way as piston motor owners look at rotary engines (and by extension, their owners) as weird and unconventional simply because they haven't taken the time to appreciate or understand the mechanics and simplistic beauty of the rotor concept, so too should we try not to condemn the sleepy eye mod just because it doesn't appeal to our individual tastes.
That being said , I kinda like the mod although I wouldn't necessarily install it on my ride.

I like functionally improving mods, this doesn't improve light output and as stated it adds extra
drag. So I don't like it.
Now if you have some pencil beam HIDs thats a different story because then they don't need to
go up as far. See the difference?

"Don't judge" is an oxymoron (the act of demanding it is rendering the very judgment upon others that the statement criticizes), and usually is an attempt to shut down others' opinions... after the speaker has already stated theirs.
The sleepy-eye mod is mechanically pointless with stock headlights, as it negates the whole point of retractable headlights (besides a smoother aesthetic, better aerodynamics and protection for the bulbs when closed, higher and more-forward light position, and wider light angle when open than a recessed-light arrangement like the 2x0Z's had).
Aesthetically, it is arguable if it looks 'good' or bad:' There's no accounting for taste. Personally, I think it wrecks the lines of the front o f the car, and makes it look like its either broken, or stoned. But everyone will have their own take on the 'look' of it, all equally 'valid.'
Mechanically, it's counterproductive.

I like to improve aerodynamics. I've removed my wipers (use Rain X works perfectly). Removed mirrors on both sides (wink mirror don't really need side mirrors). I've also noted that in many foreign FB RX7 advertisements the cars were sold without side mirrors. Now as for the headlights. I want to remove and replace with permanent HID under plexi. I would like the sleepy eye if it still flipped down during the day and had enough light to still illuminate the road for safe driving.

How about 5 mirrors inside (wink wink)? Maybe I might put a wiper back on and come up with something for a driver side mirror but laws are made to be broken. They're pretty chill about custom cars around here.

I love when these threads turn flaming and childish. Everyone should respect each others opinions. No matter how radical or stock you keep your 7, we all have one thing in common to celebrate. We all love and hate our 7's and we all appreciate seeing other 7's on the road.

Fiero guys have done it with smaller lights that project correctly but they also disconnect the motor and leave it like that day n night. Still kinda looks funny. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/sleepy-eye-look-664703/ its been covered I guess
