Hello all,
I'm thankful to have my FB (1985 GSL-SE) in such great shape, however I have a little problem after upgrading. The Racing beat front sway bar is getting some tire interference, a slight scuffing, backing at angle, I see some depainting on the bar surface on both sides. A very slight polishing effect on a smooth surface section is evident on the tires as well, from high angle steering at parking speeds. i've never heard a scuff on the road. I could live with it but don't like it not being right. The stock bar may have had same, so not blaming RB or anything. The tires and wheels are original size though, 14" 205/60. Wheels are OEM. Could spacers help? Or could varying the tie rod length be the best way to get the angle free of Obst.? Don't they make a kit for that? Another question, where do I find or install the camber alignment bolt/plate? Would caster being out cause? Going to alignment shop again soon. I had to replace wheel bearings at front. Need more info on setups of front suspension after finding a need for W Bearings and out of alignment for caster and minor out on camber too.
This is a common occurrence when running 205's upfront. The only fixes that I know off is to go to 195's or add some camber plates to the top of the structs.
This is 100% normal on an SE. It has everything to do with the additional thickness of the RB stabilizer bar. It only occurs at low speeds, anyway - and anything you try to do to prevent it will throw off alignment, caster, and camber. If it bothers you, buy a $5 can of Rustoleum Red and touch up the bar once a year on your birthday so you don't forget.
Good ha ha man and seriously thanks for the advice. I didn't think it was serious enough to bother worrying about. There is NO damage on the tire , just paint scuffing on the RB.
Thanks for the advice. I didn't think it was worth bothering with. Coilovers are on my list for future upgrades anyway. I want to make sure not to lower the car any more than stock. What a thrill this great little car is.
