Coil Overs for 1983 GSL--chassis number?
Coil Overs for 1983 GSL--chassis number?
My son has a 1983 RX7 GSL with stock suspension. He is wanting to replace it and add coil overs all around.
I found some that state "1986-91 but with fit 1983" but they want the chassis number to make sure.
Is the chassis number the VIN? If not, where would that number be?

To do coil overs all around on a 1st gen is never a bolt on. Some fabrication required. Check with T3 they make some kits I think.
The FC (2 gen) 86-91 parts are not interchangeable with the FB (1st gen 81-85) parts without modifications. I wouldn't trust their opinion on it fitting.

The VIN can be found on the dash tag, the sticker in the door jam or stamped on the firewall (passenger side) but as stated above, if the parts are designed for the 86-91 second generation cars, they will NOT fit your son's 83 without significant work.
Again, as stated above T3 (technotoytuning) makes coilovers for the first gen cars. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for - I love mine

I suggest buying a weld-on kit and doing it yourself. Techno Toy Tuning has everything you need. Save you some big money. Most exhaust shops will be happy to weld it all up for you if you explain what you want.

Stance also makes front and rear coilover kits specifically for fb's.
If all you need is coilovers you can go the budget piece-it-together route. Mustang/camaro coilovers can fit on the rear. There are write-ups for using eBay Miata coilover sleeves and springs on the front. Both are pretty much bolt-in.
