on choice of a daily beater

Ok, I was looking at >>>

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...-808724/page7/

and really got depressed and guilty feeling. So if I went the whole hog in, and dropped $10K, $20k in my rx-7 which always has been a daily beater (bought it for $3600 in 1990), then what would be a good choice a daily beater replacement?

I was thinking about an old toyota tacoma. Liberal emissions test, and they don't rust.

i thought about the tacomas too, they are still expensive here, and its a toyota, so its actually really primitive, although its pretty reliable.

the Rx8 might be another option, the early cars are under $7k, engines are cheap when the time comes too ($2k from the dealership). they are a lot of fun to drive, and actually really easy to work on. MPG sucks,

FD's can sometimes be found cheap, but run away, there is no way to build a cheap FD. its a car that doesn't share parts with anything else, and every FD is broken in the same places. in fact there are only 3 parts of the FD i've never seen fail, the driveshaft, headliner, and i think steering wheel. think about that, and this means i've seen the body break, the engine, turbo, wiring, dashboard, door panels, headlight lids, etc etc etc

I'm with Alex, another 1st gen.

Then you can post pictures and progress here, they're a great, inexpensive daily driver and in many states you don't have emissions on cars over 25 years old.

Also, can't beat the laughable simplisity of a first gen.

Your first instinct is right I think. You want a truck for daily driving. You can't beat it, and it doesn't really matter which one you have. I prefer Nissan or Toyota (any year) but Fords and Chevy's work too. The thing about a truck, is that they are built like trucks, and therefore can take a lot of abuse. If you only drive it back and forth to work and the junkyard and Lowes or Home Depot, it will last forever.
The downside was already mentioned; they are primitive. So is a first gen. That's why they are reliable.
