Cheapest Carb Setup 1981-85 rx7

Hello all, I am fairly new to this forum and have a lot of time to kill and couldnt think of a better way to kill time than to learn all I can about these Rx7s. Specifically SA rx7s. I recently purchased a 1980 rx7 and ** (with your help) ** was able to get this old girl fired up. We found that it has an 81-85 distributor, and I am in the works of going DILDFIS with the ignition system. My question is this, what motorcycle carb swap can I run. It's not a race car or a race engine. I've read a few forums and some were stating a possible carb swap with Kawasaki ex500 carbs, however that was on an fb manifold. Can I make a custom tube style manifold so that each rotor has their own carb, and if so, will I run into an issue with routing the coolant passages as im unsure if they run through the intake. Your help is greatly appreciated and I will post pics soon of my build. Thanks

The coolant passages are not an issue. Just use some 20mm freeze plugs to block them in the rotor housings. You'll want to run a header.

As for running Kawasaki ex500 carbs, sure it can be done. I haven't seen it.

Why motorcycle carbs? Back in the day the best carb setup was twin Weber 36 DCDs. You can find folks sellings these in the classifieds. Large two barrel Webers and Dellorto work as well. Intakes are available for these new. Holleys suck but some have used Edelbrocks or other 4 barrels with success.

The cheapest carb to use would be the factory nikki with modifications to breath better. See my thread on this as well as threads by the master, Jeff20B, on nikki modifications.
