Targa? what's that? lol, i'm not familiar with that term, i'm sorry if this sounds like a noob question.

 

You mean targa top as in removable roof or targa as in a race or touring type rx7?

 

The targa 7 was a special option that came with the stainless steel targa band on the roof as far as I know they did not actually have a targa roof but the band gave it that appearance oh they also all came with leather interior.

P.S. I have a 79 with a targa band coming soon pending restoration.

 

Yeah he is looking for people with the Targa stainless band option...

the targa band was an option on all grades of RX-7 in 83-85. it was part of the IMSA GTU appearance package that consisted of an IMSA style front bumper, a rear spoiler, and the stainless steel targa band. that parts could be purchased seperatly or as a package. there were two variations of the targa band. the first said "MAZDA" on the side and the later years said "TARGA 7". the targa band did not require a specific grade or leather to be had.

 

i owned an 80 rx7 that had the imsa body kit on it, and the roof had actually been cut out to make it a targa top.

the top was kinda neat, but really made the car flexy

 

 

mine came with it and I ripped it off... YUK

My 82 had one on it, but unfortunately, I got the wild idea one night that the car looked better on it's top. Not good.
I've got one in my storage building that I'mm gonna put on my 85.

 

My '83 came with the targa band. It didn't have any of the other appearance package, though. The band resides on my current white '84.

So they called it a Targa, made it look kind of like a targa, but never actually made it into a targa? thats weak sauce.

 

remember, it was just called a "targa band" not an actual targa top.

 

So who is up for making it a real targa?

 

so who has removed this targa band? i have one on my car that is kinda not looking too good.. missing the mazda side emblems and overall ugly. i want to remove it before i paint the car. is there any suprizes under it like holes and things ill need to fill?

 

Someone did on here a few years ago. I bet if he still had it now the doors would not shut!
