Best mod you have done to your rex to make it run better?

What's the best modification or new part you have put on your rex to make it run better or drive better? I'm just wondering what I should do first this summer since my rex has sat for some time and needs a lot of new things. I'm thinking suspension first.

First get it in tip top mechanical condition. Replace all rubber, change all fluids, get all the eletrical sorted (lights etc) and make sure your brakes are in like new condition.

From there this is the order:

1. Replace entire stock exhaust with headers and proven exhaust setup.

2. Remove rats nest

3. Make it breathe; a reworked nikki (aka Sterling) or a large two barrel (too many to list) or RB holley setup

4. Upgrade fuel pump and put it on a relay

5. Convert to an electric fan setup

6. Go poly on most of the suspension bushings.

7. Better springs and shocks.

2nd gen direct leading ignition. 5 mins of wire splicing after buying a $20 coil pack off the used market, and you've got a smoother idle and a more powerful spark. I actually saw gains when I did this that I did not expect. I even had a friend ride with me who knew nothing of the mod, tell me my car seemed faster (non-promt with a question like "Does the car feel different to you" I might add).

New engine? Hah!

Seriously though, suspension tightens up the feel of the car, the re-speed steering rack makes it drive like a dream, and a good tune up and carb adjustment makes it hum.

Number's 1-5 I believe are already done, so that makes things easy for me. Thanks for the tips.

I've seen that on one picture of an engine and wondering what it was. I will definitely do that soon. Thanks for the info.

The engine actually doesn't have that many miles on it, it was just after the guy before me had it rebuilt, I think the starter when bad or some of the wiring got messed up and it sat for 10 years. I wouldn't mind having a 13b TII though .I've been planning on getting a tune up soon and having the carb worked on. I will also look into the steering rack. Thanks.

Hahaha, nope, but that's probably the "coolest" one you could do to most cars. Only if it wasn't so expensive.

maintenance, it'll keep your car running till you have the money to pay for the turbo.. but also you should improve your brakes and suspension

Poly bushings in all the suspension links was one of the best mods I did. It improved the ride, road noise and made the car more responsive. Braided stainless steel brake lines is also at the top of the list because they made the pedal firmer and much more confidence inspiring than the stock rubber lines. $100 for a great upgrade.

Yeah, I'm thinking suspension, wheels, and brakes are going to be my main focus this summer to work on. I want to be able to take the corners really well, while gripping the road on some 10" wide toyo tires. I can't wait for that day. I'm also going to be doing a lot of cleaning of the engine and working on the body to eliminate some cancer. I also gotta replace some parts that have just gone bad after sitting for so long, and just find out where some random wires/cables go and come from.

i much prefer the NGK plugs and wires. they not only help the engine run better but they also make the engine look nice as well!

Well the clutch made it go from 'not running at all' to 'running quite well' so I guess that was the biggest :P

Aside from that, the shocks and springs made a huge difference. No more slamming the bumpstops crawling over speedbumps.
