Despite the fact that there are VERY few in the US (I want to say less than 300) the Montreals are incredibly good deals. You can get a clean one for around $30k or less. I think it makes the Montreal one of the best deal classics out there (right up there with the Pantera)





Dry sump, 32 valve, detuned Formula 1 V8 with around 220hp. Fantastic car.

 

There's a dealership here that always has a couple Alfa's parked out front. I don't know the models, but there are usually the boxy 4 door's and the little convertible's with single round headlights. Neat cars but not high on my "to get" list.

 

GTV6 is an 80's classic.

Italians DO have a way with cars. Will be interesting to see what Fiat does with Chrysler here...

The only Italian car I ever owned was a black Fiat X1/9. It was light, nimble and alot of fun. Kinda like an fb.
Mine met it's end on a high speed test run, when it proved unable to maintain an 88 mph top speed.

 

From watching Top Gear italian Alfa's are also known for being electrical nightmares and unreliable. But they all still love the cars. They are designed very well.

 

ideally i'd like a 67 or 69 spider, the boat tail is sweet...

I couldn't help myself when I saw the thread title. I too have an Alfa fetish. Mine is for the 65-74 GTA, GTV body. I have a lot of friends that own most of the significant early Trans Am cars. I will start my picture contributions with the first GTA to win an FIA event anywhere in the world. It's Carlos Lepro's car that took its class in the 1965 Rally Argentina, now owned by a friend of mine, restored by Roman Tucker(another good friend). I even contributed to a book that was written by the owner about the car.

 

Beautiful car jgrewe. My GF's stepdad had one in the late 60's. Garage kept but he did fire it up for me one day. Sex on wheels that makes the loins tingle when the engine is running..

The car on the far left is the 1971 Alfa of Horst Kwech that had the championship taken away and given to Datsun (BRE Datsun) after Kwech's fuel tank was found to be to large. The blue car is Lee Midgley's car from the TransAm series 1971, unrestored. The orange car on the right is Kwech's 1970 Championship winning car, found in Mexico after being lost for 30+ years. The red car in the back ground is Kwech's 1966 championship winning car.

These were taken as we were finishing the cars for the Amelia Island Concours show in 2008. We finished the cars about an hour before they were due to be on the show grounds.

Second shot is Kwech's 1971 car taking Best in Class at the show. Roman Tucker on the left,Bernardo Martinez center, I'm on the right. Roman is probably the biggest expert on these cars in the country, he is the main man in the restoration efforts with Roman Auto Prep.

well, maybe they haven't the same "magic" as old alfas, but some of the modern ones are really good cars.
the alfa gt was a nice little coupè (and the last model with the Busso )
I think the "face" of the brera\spider\159 is absolutly amazing.
to me the 159 is one of the best human-priced sedan on the market, you should see it in person!
when you look in the rearview mirror and see this evil face approaching you.. it's amazing

One of the guys that worked here at C/D last summer is an Alfa freak. He had 3 GTV6's over the summer, and sold all 3 to buy a mint GTV6. He's also restoring a BMW2002.

 

Well, yeah, I wouldn't buy an 8C even if I had the money. They are sexy, though.

The 159, though, is priced as a 3-series competitor in Europe. The 2uettottanta is just a concept, but there's no reason to assume it would be out of reach if it went to production.

 

I had a 159 as a rental upgrade (thanks AVIS) when I was in Italy in 2008. Solid car. I was having waaaay too much fun with it (and scaring the crap out of the now ex wife).

That thing is very forgiving with my ham-fisted driving style. I entered corners way too hot, and surprisingly I was able to correct it and keep it on the road. Wife was pissed at me for (insert random reason of her invention here), so thankfully she was not talking to me. I took full advantage of this fact as we were driving down from Milan to Pizza and the highway was this twisty, blind-corner, decending mountain road that was just amazing. The wife was so pissed as she picked herself off the passanger door, then the driver's door, then the dash. But, she was too pissed at me to break the silent treatment and complain so I just kept pusing it harder.

When I got back stateside, my G35 felt like a brick so I gave it to the wife in the divorce. I now dream of sleek Italian curves.
