'85 GSL Won't Stay Running
I recently bought an '85 GSL, I bought it without a gas tank and I did not hear the car run, but the old owner assured me it had ran fine off of a jerry can hooked up to the carb. So I tried to get it to run by doing the same thing but it didn't want to run by doing that, So I would pour a little bit of fuel in the carb and it would run for a couple of seconds until the gas got burnt up. So, I'm wondering, do I need to install a gas tank and fuel pump in order to get this thing to run? I'm new to the whole rotary/rx7 world, but normally, with your standard piston engine, I could get it to run off of a jerry can hooked up to the carb. I'm thinking the carb may be plugged up or something else may be wrong, but I figured I would get your guy's opinion before I started to go and diagnose it myself.
I should run if the can is above the level of the carb. Probably the carb is gunked up since you say it starts. May need a good cleaning and/or rebuild. If you rebuild do not use the new needles and seats and don't try to mess with the large plastic plate with all the vacuum ports, the gaskets on there are not meant to be removed.
