AB 79 FB - 30,000 Miles - One Owner - Buying Tips Please

Hi FB Guys. I've been on here as a FD owner for years but never been in this section...looking for a little guidance please.

A non-rotary acquaintance of mine is looking at buying a 1979 FB with only 30,000 miles. I believe that the single original owner, who loved this car, passed away recently and his widow is unloading it. I'm pretty sure that the purchaser and the original owner knew each other.

Any advice on how to gauge the quality/condition of this thing?

I have not seen this car, as it is 3 hours away from me in Canada, but I may take a trip in a week or 2 to check it out.

Apart from the obvious...body, brakes, regular drive train, etc,, are there any 'gotchas' that are unique to this model (and year?). 1979 was the first year, right?

Should a compression test be done?

Assuming this thing is in decent shape, what do you think a reasonable price would be?

Thanks in advance.

That should help. Also check for rust in the rear wheel wells and behind the storage bins.

if its original and in good shape it could be worth upwards of 4 grand. If in doubt about mileage i always look at the pedals to see how worn they are to gauge if it had turned over. unless the dude hand sand paper on his shoes 30,000 on the pedals should be hardly any damage. unlikely such an older person would change the rubber either! you can also gauge mileage buy the wear on the steering wheel as well.

If it's near mint with approx 30K (accurate miles) it could fetch between $4-6 grand. Do encourage your friend to join and post pictures if he gets it.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I fully expect that this car did not turn over the odometer.
Sorry for making the FB reference lol.

I spoke with my acquaintance and he says he is gonna pass without even seeing the car.

Turns out the car is in Toronto, not BC. I do not know if it is being advertised, or how quickly the owner wants to sell. I will remain in contact with them and if needed I shall start a thread in the Canadian Classified forum on her behalf.
