205/60R13 Tires on Stock Rims

I need to buy tires and for now plan on keeping the stock FB "+" wheels. I would like to see some photos of this combination if anyone has it. 205/70R13 tires on stock rims. As a Michelin employee, I can get the BFG Radial TAs for about the same price as Kumho 185/70s. Let me see what you have. TIA.

205 up front might rub the sway bar. I went with 195. I have 15x7 4x110 Konig Rewind with 20mm offset with 195/50R15 tires. Nothing fancy and very close to stock height.

205/60R13 Tires on Stock Rims didn't rub, but the Sumitomo tires' sidewalls flexed during hard cornering.

205/60x13 Radial T/As on stock waffles. This is the size autox folks would run in the 80s and its also the size Bridgestone RWL that were on there when I got the car in 83. I also run 205/50x15 on the Konig Rewinds. My suspension is slightly lowered and I did experience some rubbing on the front fender and had to do an emergency roll to fix it. If you are not lowered from stock, shouldn't be an issue. The second pic is the rewinds with Dunlap Direzza *2 tires.

As others have noted, 205/70 Are going to be wide enough that you'll cut the outside shoulder tread on the front tires the first time you drive it, and front fenders will need to be rolled. Rears won't care, but recognize that 70-series is taller and will throw off your speedometer reading. Additionally, that extra width in the front on 13"×5.5" wheels means your sway bar will get scrubbed and limit full travel for steering by a few degrees. Its not a lot, but know that you're going outside what's tried and true and are likely to have some impacts. The additional weight of both wider and taller tires doesn't lend itself to the spirited performance of 100hp sports cars, either - as the rear gear ratio will be effectively taller and the car will be slower all around (*if that matters to you...).

I have never once experienced rubbing or anything with 205/60s on stock wheels. On my 1980, 1985, or 1981 cars.

On my 1980 and 85, I had Eagle STs, on my 1981, I have Radial T/As.

You miss read my question. 205/60s are actually slightly smaller in diameter by 13mm. 205 width is also the max acceptable for a 5.5" wide rim. As others have said, there should not be any rubbing. I mainly wanted to see how the sidewall looked on the stock wheels. The 2% error in the speedo I can live with.

The speedometer is probably wildly inaccurate anyway.

My '80 amused me because while the odometer was accurate, the speedometer was about 10% high. It would peg the 85mph speedo at about 77mph.

My '81 is 5% high, my '85 was actually accurate.\

My '84 never had stock size tires and within like two months of ownership, I slapped in a set of 4.78s, so its speedo needed mental math to use no matter what

I have two British cars and am used to not having an accurate speedo. I use a speed app on my phone to help me check. Once I verify how much error there is, its pretty easy to stay in line.

To be fair, your message title says 205/60 while the message body says 205/70. I have 205/60 r13 tires on my 83 FB and I have not experienced any rubbing.

Glad I ran into this thread. I am currently running 185/70/13 Kumho tires (newly installed by the previous owner) and think the car could use an overall better tire. Looks like Tire rack currently has the BF Goodrich on sale which look as good as they perform from my understanding.

I have a set of 205/60 on my waffles. They look great but they are basically mud and snow tires and completely suck for handling. The Kunhos mentioned are probably better. LOL!

The rubber compound has probably changed considerably in the last 15 years. So far they have met my expectations which are not autocross standards by any means.

I drove in the rain for the first time yesterday on these new BFGs and they did great. Not Michelin CC2 great, but didn’t have a problem with traction! Super happy with them so far.
