1985 RX-7 GSL Appraisal

Hey Everyone, I need a little help from you guys. I need a couple appraisals from you guys of "How Much You Would Pay" for my car if I were to sell it. I need this information for insurance purposes and for other references in case I do want to sell it in the future, I would know exactly what would be a decent price to sell my RX-7.
Here are the details of my car so you guys can estimate:

1. 1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL
2. 12a Engine w/ carburetor - Carburetor has been rebuilt and runs properly
3. Brown interior in mint condition
4. Doesn't have any modifications; fully stock and running.
5. Mileage = 99000

If you guys need any other details just ask. I really do appreciate the help and hopefully my RX-7 is worth a pretty good amount. Like I said, its in running condition and both the interior and exterior are flawless.

i'll move this to the non tech section.

pictures will really help us chime in on how much we feel your car is worth. remember, that being said, these will be opinions. opinions based on experience with the 84-85 RX-7, overall knowlege, buying and selling experience and maybe just a drunken rant or expression of what someone feels about the worth of your car.

without pics all we have to go on is what you say and when placing a value on a 7, its impossible without pics or every angle, underneath, inside of the storage bins, condition of cadmium plating on components, originality, running condition, paint quality/originality etc.

If it's in very good condition, no rust, everything working, around $3000.

If it's showing some wear and tear but runs well and is in good shape, around $2000.

If it is in good shape but running poorly or needs repairs, $1500-$2000.

Rust spots like the kind you get in the north (wheel wells, rear storage bin area, door sills) are cancer which needs to be disclosed to know the true value.

A rundown on its operating condition, engine, chassis, brakes and good pics of the engine bay, exterior paint, under carriage and interior would help pin it down.

Does it looks like this?

I bought the Tan One in 2001 from my brother in law for $2,200, pretty much stock, 107,000 miles. The pictures are after I did some cleaning.

Feb. of 2010, I purchased my 85 RX7 GS. It was mint, some light hail damage, but interior was flawless, exterior was great, and it had 91K miles. Tires were new, it had all documentaion for the past 5 years, all oil changes, everything. I paid the full $3500 the seller was asking. There is a caveat to this story though. I had owned the exact same color, year, (and mileage!!) RX7 10 years before, and there was a bit of nostalgia and sentimental factor in my purchase. Do I think it was worth it?

HELL YES!!! That being said, if your GSL happens to be exactly what one person is looking for, then it will be worth something more to them.

My RX7's story is in this thread:

You need to realize that what I would pay, if that was the exact car I was looking for, is going to be a lot different than what my insurance company will say it's worth, or what you should expect to get as offers from someone just looking for a decent car.

I agree w/ RayGreens assessment, but think $3k is still a bit high unless someone is looking for that specific car and its damn near flawless. I would say sight unseen in the $1500-$2200 range. Don't be afraid to look up the Kelly Blue book on it. Beaters go for $500.

I agree with Ray. If it's as clean as the tan car, I'd think $3000 is about right.

If it helps, I just bought my 85 gsl with 53,000 one owner miles for $3000. I did have to put a clutch and an idler arm on it, but it is a very clean car and not a spot of rust on it. So I would say 3000 would be in the right ballpark if it really is in as nice shape as you say.

Hey Ray Green, yeah My car looks exactly like yours.... Interior is in-tact and its in good running condition. Exterior has no rust except for some surface rust spots, but they are not deep rust and they are only a couple small spots. I do appreciate the help guys! I'm looking for some of my photos of my car, but I haven't taken any in such a long time. I'll keep looking around
