10-6-9 OGTA Meeting
12A Count:
1 RX-3 = 2 12A’s (Billy)
1 REPU = 2 12A’s (Crit)
3 SA’s = 4.5 12A’s (Roland, Cory, Andy)
8 FB’s = 8 12A’s (Mike, Greg the Elder, Greg the Younger, Karl, Chris, Gene, Geraldo, Ray)
2 FC’s = 1 12A (Zach, Collin)
1 RX-8 = 0.125 12A’s (Kevin)
Total 12A’s = 17.625
Not bad for a cloudy dark October evening.
Billy finally shows up in a rotary, a nice 3 with an excellent engine bay which I managed not do get a picture of. Could somebody post this up?
Mr. Roland's very pretty SA comes out of storage for the last 20 years:

Whoops I forgot Mike's FB:
And here's the engine shots for Billy's RX-3 (Thanks Roland!):
Roland I'd buy a tee shirt or two!
I also should mention we had a little Wonder Steer workshop and adjusted some steering boxes. What's an OGTA meeting without a little wrenching?:

Banzai Iowa is a long drive from here but the weather is much nicer in Georgia and we sure have a lot of Wankels wandering around.
Dave those tools are from my tool box, not my back yard! They are probably ones I inherited from my Grandfather, who passed on in 1969, old but they still work fine (in fact that pipe wrench works way better than all the published procedures for loosening the lock nut on a manual steering box). They all see regular service.
Thunkrd, CA is a long way from GA too but we'd love to see you, especially if you bring the 7 (boosts the 12A count, among other things). And here's the good news, you don't have to wait until next year, we have an OGTA meeting every month, first Tuesday evening of the month. Next one is Tuesday November 3rd at the regular meeting place, Jefferey's Sports Bar and Restaurant in Suwanee, Georgia starting around 6:30 pm and usually running until 9 or 10, depending on the business meeting. There's lodging at the Rotary Motel (Holly's) for out of towners. Here's a mapquest:

And here's a link to the OGTA thread, we welcome virtual members from around the world:

And here's our newly revised business card, Billy has built in an eternal link that always takes you to the end of the OGTA thread:
Finally I need to make a correction, that last photo was not Mike's FB, it's Greg the Younger's - both are Tornado Silver 85 GS(L)s and they are hard to tell apart in some photos. Here's Mike's car:

It helps alot not to have an AC in the way, ditching the AC also looks better, makes accessing the plugs much easier and lightens the car by 50-100 lbs. (Besides, AC is for girls, right?)
Here's what the box looks like in my 85 GSL with manual steering:
You access that thin 40 mm lock nut from the top and it is hard to get a hold of, for sure. But the pipe wrench properly placed will grab hold and not let go if you get it right, providing plenty of torque (if your AC is gone) to get it to break loose.
You may need to tap the pipe wrench handle a few times with the 3 lb sledge to get it to pop loose, that's why it's included in the kit. Then use the punch to move the inside piece clockwise a little bit, checking the steering wheel play as you go - I did mine in 1/8th turn increments, for a total of 1/4 turn to take up the play, now it's perfect.
Important: Jack the front end of the car up first if you are going to make anything more than minor adjustments! If the wheels don't move freely you can damage your worm gear if it can't move with your adjustment. Also be careful not to over tighten the adjustment, this will just cause your steering gear to wear out faster.
