Don't know if this is the right way to contact you.

Wanted to know if the TII swap thread could become another forum within the 1st gen forum.

Just wondering, sure would be easier to navigate through all the info as opposed to one huge thread. Also the topic sometime becomes quite varied with several lines of thought being posted.

Thanks, Scott

Well I'll chime in.
Lately I've been working on my I/C plumbing and trying to get my wastegate here so I can finish my exhaust manifold. I should be picking up my driveshaft tomorrow, hopefully it will be the right length this time (they made it 3" too short the 1st time ) I ditched the stock oil cooler in favor of one from work that I mounted a fan on. It's right under the drivers side headlight. Still have to make ducting for it but I think it will work alright.

Nice job zyounker

Hey zyounker, I think it looks pretty good. Thanks for putting the pictures up. Allways nice to see someone else's project.

That turbo looks pretty big, does it fit ok. I've heard the engine can move alot when under high torque.

Lots of people are talking about the driveshaft mods but I haven't seen any good details about what is involved.

I'd like to find a solution that uses replaceable u-joints.

Great if someone could post the details.

The turbo in the pic is a TO4E P trim /w a 60-1 compressor wheel on an HKS cast manifold for a 2nd gen.

It has plenty of room really. Nut the idler arm bushing is pretty close to the manifold, so you might want to use a heat sheild..

I have decided to go with a GT35/40. On about the same setup, it has made 480RWHP @ 20psi on race gase.. And that sounds pretty good to me

As for the drive shaft, i have a shortened TII driveshaft.
that will be changing because i am going with a ford 9" in back.

As for one with replacable U joints, i would say buy the mazdatrix replacement with replaceable u-joints for a TII. and have it shortened. I think they are around ~250.

Well, thanks for the complements, it those pics it is dirty has hell, i will be blasting and painting the engine bay very soon too.

It could be a few things..

1. Clogged cat/pre-cat?
2. Running too lean?
3. turbo not getting oil/coolant?

I think that about does it..

Rex4life- I just had a shaft made for my car this week. It has the T2 style front yoke/slip and the FB style rear end flange. The u-joints are replaceable and are about the same size as the T2 ones. I had them make it 39 7/8" fron the pinion flange to the center of the front u-joint and it fits like a million bucks . It was $302 including tax and shipping from CA to MN. Hope that helps?

zyounker- You sure you shorten the T2 shaft instead of lengthening it? I thought the rear "pumpkin" on the FC/T2 was very long unlike the FB?

Well, as you know a shop did that part for me. I thought it was shortened, but now that i think about it you are probably right.

well, yeah I can send some pics, or post them, I have to warn you , my car is all primer and I'm not too proud of it yet, its still somewhat unfinished in some areas. Maybe I'm a perfectionist, or maybe not. The motor is in box's right now in the back hatch. The stock 12a is no longer in the car so it pretty hollow under the hood. I'll take some pics though, and you can see the "before" and then I can send some "after" in a few months. I'm new to this club, so give me a few days.

I just cant wait to finish mine. It wil be a daily step-up. The call will be focused on passing smog. I live in Sacramento, where it is the strictest in the WORLD.

Plans:
-Stock S4 (complete) - mild street port
-S5 turbo
-Microtech
-Small NPR
-FPR / External fuel pump (undecided - looking for low-cost method)

'83 wide body - Glacier White / HRE wheels.

Budget $2k.

I will have pics next week end. ....cant wait.....

sorry to burst your bubble, but it is not going to happen. there is no way that that setup will pass smog (or atleast not test only.) without the stock ecu, the smog shops cannot hook up their funky little machine to the computer, and thus they will not pass you on that alone. if you want to try to go to a referee, then everything has to be completely as it was in the TII (meain stock ecu, exhaust, and turbo...).

Well im holding off on putting the engine in now b/c i found a cage cheap so ill do that first. When you guys installed your engines what route did you go on the front cover and bracket combo? I had a 12a cover and bracket but i hear ive got to modify it for the length diff of a 13b.

easy way of getting around modifying the bracket is to buy racing beats for 80 bucks or so. It's made to put a 13b in a 12a crossmemberd car.
