Profec B Install...Have you tried this? How's yours installed?

Hey All, I am getting my Profec B in a couple of days and was researching on the install and came across this...

Have you guys tried the Version 2 of the pics below? How do you like it?

If not, how did you do yours?

And another thing...Do I need the restrictor pills for this install?..

Thanks

Hey man!! Mine is installed by the Greddy instruction manual. Its not the "new" or other version pictured. You are more than welcome to look at mine. Pretty easy to follow the lines. I absolutely love the boost controller. Makes the turbos response crisper and faster. I always seem to break the tires loose easily with it on. Check mine out when I make it back to Tulsa! Later

i have a profec b installed..no problems...there is no need for the restrictor pills....you will have new lines going to waste gate...make sure the dip switches are up,down,up down, if i recall...should be making 7psi with the profec off....turn the adjustment **** to lowest level there and adjust from there...i mounted the profec in the vent in the crotch area....good place but your ***** won't be warm anymore

Dood, that's freaking great

I have my HKS Turbotimer in my ball vent...I think I am going to stick it in the din below the head unit...

Sounds pretty easy to install-n-tune. Can't wait.

apneablue, you can read my tuning tips, I've posted in them in the last few Profec posts.

Also, hook it up using Version 1, not Version 2. Most people experience spiking problems with Version 2 (works great for others though). You won't have the wastegate line with the pill in it anymore but leave your pre-control alone (assuming Version 1).

Good luck!

Mine should arrive early next week. I hope to be able to install it in the driver door pocket. BTW, does anyone out there have a spare pocket door they want to sell?

Ok...I just got done installing the Profec and it was a cake walk...I installed using the Version 2 above and by golly it works!

Rynberg: I know you said not to do version 2 but I kinda had to since I threw out my pills when I did the Team Home Depot Boost Controler.

So yeah, it works great....Took about 20 minutes to get the low and high boost set..

Low: 12 psi
High: 14psi (may be kinda pushing it on my blockweld but ahhh well )

One thing I wasn't sure what to do with was the "Sharp" ****...I just kinda left it...

This thing rocks!

apneablue:

The profec b comes from the factory with balance **** set to full MILD. This increases lag and reduces turbo response.

To set the balance control:

*reduce boost **** to MIN as the balance control has a large effect on boost levels

*turn balance towards SHARP until the boost starts wavering or becoming unsteady at constant WOT. Now, just back off a little bit (back toward MILD). You don't want to turn it up too far or you won't be able to hit the boost levels you are looking for. Mine is set about 2/3 of the way to SHARP.

*Now raise the boost **** back up til you hit your target boost.

*Watch out for the hi-**** setting, as it starts 3 psi higher than the lo-**** at the same point on the dial.

*Setting the boost is much easier with the Defi Link gauges (record feature), isn't it?

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up on the balance button....I will get that done today...

Another thing...On the high setting at 14 psi (on the defi) I am seeing 83% Inj duty cycle. I can't remember but is that on the high side? the boost as per the PFC was .82 bar which I think converts to a little over 11PSI (multiply by 14.22 right?) ...but the Defi gauges are saying 14...Man, could they be that much off?

Is that a constant 14 psi or a spike? The Commander does not display spikes at ALL and typically reads 1-2 psi off, according to many of the posts I've seen in the PFC forum. Then again, I've recently seen a few posts that the Defi's tend to read a hair high as well. I hope that's not the case considering how much they cost.

I believe 80% is the recommended maximum for high reliability but the injectors are still "under control" until about 85%. After that, they're pretty much just wide open dumping fuel....

Do you still have the stock 850cc secondary injectors? If not, you might be running a bit rich up top.

My PFC reads 83% peak injector duty at 9.5psi!! Am I running really rich or what? This is on the stock base maps.

Rynberg,
We need to go for a ride in my car so you can help set the balance setting on my Profec. I should of had you help adjust it last time. I have a hard time adjusting it while driving. Plus it's in the glove, hard to reach.
