20B cosmo for sale at Scarborough Mazda

Have you guys seen that Scarborough Mazda is selling their 20B cosmo? I've seen it before. It's decently clean car.

They were asking for 20,000 dollars for the car, which I tihnk is a bit much. They have lowered it to 15,000 now.

Do you think they would go lower? I remember seeing this car forsale for 6k a while back that they bought...

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=cosmo

1991 3 Rotor Cosmo for Sale Only $6000!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK guys after paying storage fees on this car 8 months(at $280/month) and having never driven it since Feb. I have decided to sell it for silly money rather than hang onto it any longer and get no use out of it.

Here is the link to when I originally posted the car for sale, then backed out as I thought I might drive it in the summer.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.ph...ght=1991+cosmo

Getting married in May didn't realy make that possible and now the car needs to go before I get stuck paying another winters worth of storage fees.

The car is very nice.
Is a 20B car not to be confused with the 2 rotor Cosmos.
has 100,000km
It hasn't been driven since the original post so I wont go into too much detail here.
Do you guys think they would take 5500? I think that should be a fair price? It's been a while so the car should have gotten about 500 bucks worth of depriciation.

It would be a cool car to replace my S5TII I sold earlier this year.

I was going to go have a look at this car, but after talking to a salesperson it sounds like they are serious about the 15K price.

I'm not sure where they are coming from asking more than double what the car is really worth. At the end of the day it's a 20 year old RHD car with 100,000km.

I guess in the end time will tell, they might just get someone that doesn't know the car's history to spring for it.

$5500 is a completely reasonable price to pay for a car with a $5000 engine in it and a $15,000 asking price.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.

Seems reasonable to me.
They purchased the car for $6000 and obviously put in $9000 worth of restoration and upgrades.

It's hard to quantify maintaince. Infact it's not even considered most of the time on the value of the car.

When you total you car, the insurance company isn't going to pay you out more money because it had a new set of tires you put on it 2 months ago, or paid 1k to change a timming belt (for piston cars ofcourse). I know this because that is what happened to me.

The total transformation of Scarboro Mazda continues.

Forget those strange rotaries, come on in and buy our great little family sedans and people movers.

Mazda = Performance????? Mazda Canada doesn't seem to care about the heratige of the marque and Scarboro Mazda is just following their direction. No wonder Al left.

Thanks for putting up the good fight Al. It was great while it lasted.

The motor is more like 3k max.

http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/details.php?id=3281

Tiger might not have the best reputation, but the condition of the Cosmo is unknown too ...

In comparison, the $5500 might be a bit low on the offer, but $15000 is a lot more laughable.

Jeez, I hope they didn't mark up my 3 that badly.

Ninja edit: I'll bet they'll throw in a $10k warranty that will be void after driving a city block!

The Cosmo at Scarboro is an amazing car. I am the only one who has driven it, or was up until November of this year. The car was not brought of a Japanese auto wrecker like 90% of the JDM cars imported here, it was owned by one elderly gentleman in Japan. You can all say what you want about perceived value, the price is dictated by what you can replace it with. I am willing to bet it would be hard to find a car equipped like that and its condition for 5 or 6K. We spent a lot of time bringing the car back to its showroom quality, and while I agree 15K may be at the high end, I personally wouldn't sell the car, because within a few years it will be one of kind. Just my opinion!

ps. Thanks Eric for your kind words, and your right it just wasn't worth trying to support MCI when they wouldn't support me or their motorsport heritage. Even with all the issues, Toyota as a company is a 100% improvement.

nik, if you are serious about picking up a cosmo. There is 3 at the moment in montreal.

There selling them for very cheap.

Only one 20b, but they want $ 7000, and if you show up with $ 6000 cash they will take it .( the people looked depressed with the cars sitting there and not being able to sell them to montrealors)

one modded 13b RE with a FC 5 speed conversion and TD06 turbo kit

a stock 13b RE

there is also no rust FCs for $ 2000-$3000 ( but dents everywhere from shipping )

and 3 FDs but they look like they have seen better days $ 5000-6500

there's a price difference between a running, working 20B and the non running pile of melted steel you just linked. a running 20B at $5k is a far better deal than anything tiger could ever produce at any price.

How do you know they are not running?

Japan Direct is selling a few C series 20Bs at $4K and you've got a few to choose from.
Is the chassis really worth $11k?

someone who wants something a little different, sure the 11k is worth it.

Isnt the LFA going for $ 400000 and its at par of a zr1 ? that's 1/4 of the price.

I wouldnt pay the premium price they are asking. But for someone wanting a nice car that probalby 99.99% of the members on this forum haven't seen sure.

Not having to restore the car is key part I think.

If you are just looking at the car for its engine............shame on you! That is an immaculate car that should be bought to be enjoyed and driven...WHOLE. If all you want is the engine, go get one from a wrecker or something. That is exactly why that car will continue to increase in value, because they are still getting cut-up for their engines.

I don't think the point of the LF-A was to create the fastest car, they also had luxury in mind. All of the cars have sold, so Toyota did something right. It has a lot of cool technology and what not, looks very exotic and is quality built...the corvette isn't really most of those things. You definitely won't get the same feeling when you sit in a ZR-1 and then when you sit in the LF-A. Just like many other exotic cars that are way more expensive than a ZR-1, yet not as fast. The point of it is not so much to be uber fast, but more so to be distinguished.

The cosmo was revolutionary when it came to technology back at that time, everything about that car is awesome. Definitely a great investment too, as the value will only rise as they become more rare...as if they weren't rare enough to begin with. They are quality built cars, and articles suggest one of the best ever produced in many ways...so it's definitely not a car to look down on. So yea, I agree that if you have the intention of hacking this car...don't do it...it deserves to go to a nice home and remain the beautiful piece of mazda history that it is.

After going onto ScarboroMazda's website, I fell in love with the Cosmos. It looks amazing. It looks to be in fantastic shape. I can't say I would pay 15 for her, but 10-12 grand is probably fair.
I have 2 questions due to my own ignorance. Is there anywhere that states they have lowered the price to 15? I see the website is jus below 20. Secondly, I've heard rumours that imports such as Skylines are getting hit with Salvage titles etc for no apparent reason. If this is the case,is there evidence of this happening to other imports and if so, how does Insurance handle it?

I got the car titled when Scarboro Mazda purchased it, no salvage or anything, just straight up title.

No one is trying to harvest the engine out Al ...... Terrh brought it up ...

We are strictly talking about the market value of the car and how we think it's currently overpriced.

Anyhoo, my MS6 lease is coming up ..... got any cars you recommend that's similar in performance at your new gig?

Any FT-86 yet?

As per market value of a used car.....................its worth what someone will pay for it lol, just watch Barrett-Jackson this weekend. Some cars fetch stupid money others way under what I would think its worth.

As for replacing your Speed 6, Toyota makes NOTHING even close to it lol. We make great cars for boring drivers. I honestly dont know what I would replace a Speed 6 with, the only things I would compare a Speed 6 to is an Audi S4 or something like that. I went and looked at the Hyundai Genesis's and they are still Hyundai's, no where near the Japanese on final build quality etc. They are way better than they were but still have a ways to go in my opinion. I'd be tempted find a Mazda dealer you can trust and terminate the lease, then see what Mazda Credit deems fair market value and if its the right price I would buy it back, just make sure you can get a Mazda extended warranty, but you have to have proof of all services or it isnt worth the paper its written on.

I will give Hyundai credit where its due. They have really stepped up. However, no matter how much you polish sh#t, it's still SH#t. If I were going to replace a Mazdaspeed 6, I would be looking at a M series BMW. The M coupe, IMO, is a great looking car with a little over 300 hp. There is obviously faster, but it is great. It's a little pricey, but I'm sure there are used ones around. But if you wanted performance, just buy the Cosmo. It will put out a 14 second quater mile. That should count for something. Assuming I dont buy it first.

Yeah .. I've seen it : http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalidor...7622784812097/

I never asked a price just to sit in it. Frankly, I thought it was just a car to show off their stuff in the show room. Guy at the service desk did tell me some interesting stories about how it came to be there and work it has had done on it.

14 sec is common now.

My MS6 can do 13.5 @ 105mph already.

I agree 14 seconds is becoming more common. But the majority of cars still arn't there. The RX-7 TT was rated anywhere from 13.8 to 14.2 pending on options.
