what do you think? 996 turbo vs FD
My friend has a 996 Turbo with the upgraded turbo package, and everything else is pretty much stock vs my FD with all bolt-ons running stock seq. around 14psi. What do you think the outcome will be like? I think he is about 450 crank hp 3600+ lbs vs my 350 rwhp 2700 lbs.
I took his car for a spin this afternoon when we went out for lunch, and that thing pulls really hard even on 5th gear. Not sure how the AWD performs from a highway roll, but from a dig, he would probably destroy me. We plan on doing a feel pulls next week, so I am just curious. Should be interesting...

as a fd owner and having driven many a 996 I'm not sure who would win on rolling drag race but the porsche would smoke you an a road course(if the driver where worth a ****).

I'd say you stand for a good race. AWD really means close to nothing on the highway besides added weight (extra diff/shaft/etc.) So I'd say, highway he's yours. From a dig, you're his bitch.

if anything, weight is a bigger penalty on a road course

the 996tt is an absolute beast on the highway- it is NOTHING like an EVO/STI. i believe the factory rated top speed is near 190mph.

Dont give me wrong, the 996 is a beautiful car. However, we are coming just straight line speed here guys. I have no doubt it has much advanced tenology, and it also cost 4 times more than our FDs if not more. But I am just saying, I think it will be a fun race nontheless. This is my good friend, and he owns vipers, M3s, supras, and P-cars now. So I wont lose sleep over it if I lose, much respect for the car, but if I win, we show our 13+ yr old car still shines with the state of the art race car. We will see. But when I drove it, I think it hauls some serious *** on the highway.

LOL...gotta love the fanboys here. I've seen a modded 996TT during a lapping day....I don't think a 360rwhp FD can beat it (different driving talent notwithstanding). However, I'm eagerly anticipating to see if a "very modded" 425rwhp one can catch that thingy...*so Omochi, when's the next event?*

In the end its about the driver.
Let me preface this by saying I owned an FD for about 5 years (and still clamor for another) and recently drove a 996 and 997 (for "work" related reasons). I drove a 996, 997 and an unnamed car about 3 weeks ago in Arizona. When in the 996 and 997 I was a little uncomfortable and could not push it. If I was in my FD, I'm pretty sure I would have timed better laps at our proving grounds - but I wasn't, so I got to drive like a grandma (albeit a crazy granny) in both the 996 and 997. It is a fun car, I wish I had more time in it...
To say the 996 is horrible on the hwy is really a bad comment. I don't even know how to respond to that haha.
If you are lucky he might be a poor driver =) You know what they say about Porsches... (Porsche, where the ***** is on the inside). Haha, let me say that I know a few Porsche owners that are VERY skilled drivers, so it's just a joke. But either way, if you are both of equal skill it should make for a fun time. If the vehicles were both stock in this case, the 996 should be able to beat an FD handily.

I dont think I have ever won any races in my FD. I pretty much lost to most of the cars I raced. Supercharged C5 Z06, E46 M3 w/ 150 shot, IS300 w/ a PT-61, 966 TT etc. etc. Those are the fun races, and yes, these are some of the faster cars on the road. The outcome was great nontheless.

I raced a stock Porsche Turbo a bit over 3 years ago. I don't know which one it was. We were dead even from about 85 to around 140. I have about 300 rwhp @13 psi.

If this guys porsche is the same model, and is slightly modded, you will beat him.

I raced a brand new 911 Turbo (not sure if its the 996 or not i did'nt look) thats was seriously quick i'd guess low 12 seconds on a 1/4 easy, he smoked me off the lights and from 60-100 there was not alot in it. My car is 312rwhp.

I don't know where you guys are getting this "911 TT's outhandle FD's" ideas. Maybe a STOCK FD because of the 225/50/16 tires and tiny brakes, but if you've updated your FD to what is the modern standard (big brakes and 18" wheels), the platform is MORE than capable of delivering. It's lighter, and the suspension is as good or better.

But one can always mod the FD like crazy and get it better than the 996TT. However, that can be said for the Porsche too.
