Question GM 3 Bar Map Sensor

Ok, so I was using the Wolf Internal Map sensor for these last two years.... now, i need to go a bit bigger.... breakin in is nearly done (about time) .

I will be boosting at 25psi which is the sweetspot for the TO4R. With water Inj and closed loop knock protection i should get some good numbers.... I hope.my threshold is the 550BHP. once attained I will'de tune' to stay at 550 ish....reduce boost etc. but at the moment whatever it takes to pop the 550...yes i know i am fixated with the number .

Back to thread. I can only boost 25psi with a gm 3 bar MAP, and also for data logging purposes I need the extenal sensor to tap into....

-Any ideas who has done this before on the wolf, what wiring pinouts are used on the FD.

-How the heck do you get to calibrate the 3bar Map sensor. It was straight forward on the internal but any idea how to do it on the external?

Thanks. Also, any GM part number that is recomended to purchase?

Thanks guys....

Best,

George

Thumbs up

Hi George, I have never done this before but the GM 3 bar sensor comes with a calibration table. Under Configuration /sensor setup/external MAP,MAF (old V4 software) you will find the table just fill it out from the table supplied with the sensor. On the S4 the external MAP sensor goes to the ECU however I don't know about your model. A little research is needed here.

Then select External MAP and you should be cooking..you cook a lot of chicken with 550Hp

Cheers

hmmm ok.... makes sense.....

so you recon any 3 bar map sensor will do as long as there is the calibration table enclosed.

I had a map of a TO4R with 3 bar map sensor..... i will try to take out that table and post it here....

Thanks Mike for the feedback...... i smell grilled chicken.....yummy

Anyone done this before?

If you look in one of the technical buletins on the wolf site in aust , they willl tell you how to calibrate the external map sensor .. I have done it with a gm 3 bar .. most of the voltages i found on the net web sites to set it up did n`t seam correct, for what pressure was showing . i ended up teeing both wolf and Gm Map up with a vacumm line to a plastic syringe .. this way i could create boost pressure and vacumm reading by pushing the or pulling the syringe .. then i switched between internal to external map sensor and seeing if the pressure readings were the same and adjusted the extrenal map till both were the same .. this way if i had to go back to the internal map sensor .. my fuel /ignition map will be ok still up to 23 psi .

crap..... so after all, the calibration tables will serve for F*** all. great!

Well I am checking out the wolf delco 3 bar sensor.... maybe they enclose the table.

I dont recall that in the tech articles there was any refernce on calibrating the external sensors.... i will take a look see again.

I doubt it will be as straight forward as when we calibrate the internal map.... and from what you tell me its going to be a massive Pain in the bum!!

Thanks... i will look up the article on the set up....

You could always use a 4 bar sensor and methonal. 45PSI would be like riding a skyrocket in a jock-strap

Cheers

P.S. stick with VDO ,Bosch and GM Map sensors

Thanks guys! Well I will rather go for the MSD or the Bosch GM 3 Bar, and have it run of the external load sensor. At 25 psi i can risk F***n it up

Jeremy, I will log with the LM1 through the same map sensor.... i was considering to log through my apexi avcr map sensor.... that should be 3 bar too....i hope

I installed a 3 bar map just for datalogging. I'm still using the wolfs internal sensor for itself. the gm sensor seems to be a little 'twitchy'

as far as the calibration goes i diddnt want to have to re tune my whole ign and fuel tables so i made my new calibration table read all the same voltages as the internal map so it did nothing but now i can log with the innovate off the same sensor as the wolf is using (gm 3 bar) but if i want to boost more than 22.2 then i will have to re-move my fuel and ign maps but oh well and its not that hard, if you want the voltage to psi and vacume values then i can supply them but i will have to dig them up and it will take a while but i can do it.
let me know.
