Argh idle arghhh.. bup bup bup bup bup mmm bup bup bup bup bup etc

How the hell does one go setting their idle?? I just spend 1 hour in my driveway. I can get my idle down to about 800rpm, farily smooth with 10deg timming with afr's around 12.5 - 12.8.

However with this setting, my car is an absolut bitch to start. I have to stay with it and rev it lightly a few times and keep an eye on it for maby 30sec before it will stay runninig

Input?

Right now with my old setup, it idles farily roughly, but is easy to start, sounds like a half bridge.. 1050 to 1200rpm, lots of crackling and poping from engine bay, afr's 12flat with 40deg timming..

eh, so annoying, oh and my eyes burn now from 12ish afr's for an hour

are you using an IAC? =]

my car will start and fast idle for a few seconds to keep everything happy, then depending on coolant temperature, idle at 1500 and go down to 1000 when fully warmed up.

Have you set timing and fuel air temp calibrations? this will help alot...40* timing on idle??? i have never needed to use this much...normally between 5* and 22* at normal operating temperature.

CrackHeadMel have a look at the following idle thread.

Also it would be good it we knew the injector size to get a idea of how much fuel you are injecting and also the map you are using may help. I would check the timing and phasing of your coils to make sure everthing is correct. My car only ran crook at idle when I had a stuck injector once fixed it ran smooth but a little rich.

Idle rpm and cranking/starting difficulties should not really be related.

If your car idles fine at 800rpm, but is difficult to starts, then I would say your problem would be with the CRANK FUEL RATE. (Not sure if this is what it is still called in the V4, I only have V3 experience )
