Again, this is in Southern California.
I was going to try for the Arizona trip on the 18th but I figure its way more convienient to have him come here. Ive heard alot about this guys abilities and I want to see it first hand with my 7. Its at R&D Dyno in Gardena (tentatively). I havent heard back from Scott at RotaryX yet so Ill give him a call tomorow. Interest is growing so im pretty confident that we can get him out here given the amount of people that could show up. Ill let everybody know what i find out tomorow as far as dates, prices, yadda yadda yadda.

Ill keep everyone posted.

Steve is the best tuner I've encountered, and can tune anything, except for an abacas... (he doesn't do analog)

Jeff on the other hand, is a wrencher, and as long as you let him wrench, (Actually It's Allen that wrenches) he's descent. Given that there aren't any distractions (cough Racecar).
But as far as tuning goes I wouldn't trust them to tune a calculator to come up with the number 4 (2+2) for the uneducated.... and Jeff has been using R&D for as long as he's been attempting to tune anything, and they're undoubtedly friends..... so I'd shop around....

My .02, since I've tuned my car 4 times, blew up 2 motors, both Jeff's, and neither of which was his fault directly. (or that I can prove). And I've never had a better experience than with Steve...

Went to Dynamic Autosports today. They said $100/person (strap fee waived) renatl fee. I asked twice if that was a flat rate and he said yes, "if 5 or more" but I would still tripple check again. The only thing is they said they would run the dyno but doesn't steve do the tuning from the lap top anyhow? The also have a tuner that's supposedly done rotaries but I don't know of anyone that has done it there with him.

This shop is not far from my house. i've spoken to them about dyno use also, dont they charge 110USD/person normally?

Also, I dont know of any rotary which has been tuned there or what EMS they're more familiarized with. The location is much better then other places I've been too. The service is a bit questionable though.

its steve kan doing the tuning, it doesnt matter what the shop has done, steve ownz them.

i need my car tuned badly its running super rich, if i can get an hks ignition in before this date, i will surely be interested in the tuning, considering i was going to take it back to XS to have it retuned..rich tuning bastards...fouled my hks racing plugs in less than 5 months, and the ngk plat 4's i just put in less than a month ago...already showing signs

just so I/we know, how much are we looking at ball park per person to have steve actually tune our car...(dyno fee's plus steve fee's)

i need to know so i can "try" to fit this into my budget as i really need this right now, but i also need to repay some debt...

thx in advance

Having organized several of these with Steve and participated in a bunch more I can honestly tell you 5 cars in one day is a bit optimistic. 3-4 cars in a normal day is feasible. It is possible to do 5 cars but you need to make sure the dyno will be open early and close late. 12 hrs dyno time is not unrealistic to get 5 cars done. This is also assuming that Steve can run the dyno. If he can't because the shop owners insist upon operating it, things will only take longer.

Of course this all depends on peoples setups but given most people getting tuned have custom setups with single turbos, problems will certainly arise.

3rd week of April would be best for me

Steve charges $350 flat rate to tune a car. Dyno rates vary widely.

In the time allotted, can he give us more than one map? i.e. one 12 psi map, one 13psi map, one 14psi map, etc? I imagine most folks just want the highest possible .

If you guys want a ROTARY ONLY SHOP WITH A DYNO.....Rotary Reliability and racing in Santa Ana might be a good choice. If we have any hiccup's with cars there are rotary parts on hand. I got some juice there so let me know. EDIT... Just got off the phone with Louie down at the shop and he is EXCITED to have Steve Kan come down. The dyno rate will be VERY Reasonable, The exact number depends on the # of cars. What are we up to now? BTW the dyno can be run ALL WEEKEND LONG.....sun up till sun down.....

I spoke with Danny Pham when I special ordered my Apexi boost control kit a few days ago. They are the authorized dealer for just about everything, inlcuding PFC. He told me $100/person. He did not say per hour. I don't think it matters any not being a rotary specific shop or their tuner not specializing in rotary because Steve will do the tune. I also think it may be a benefit to have the control the dyno then Steve can concentrate on his lap top tune and not be distracted and maybe it will get cars on/off a lil bit faster to finish everyone scheduled. It's a brand new building with new equipment and the dyno has allways been in use every time I went there. They will be at Irwindale tomorow for the drift race.

Still waiting to hear from Scott on this. Rotary Reliability definitely may be a viable option. Im sending an email to steve directly cause he's a bit more responsive to answering them. R&D said we can pretty much have the dyno for as long as we need it ($125/hr) and allow steve to run the dyno. With Rotary Reliability, I think they'd also be happy to allow steve to run it cause hes getting free advertising out of it. If we got 15 7s coming there, at least 3 may be his future customer.

more info to come.

CALL LOUIE @ 714-839-8018. I will tell you guys, They will hook it up. The dyno wont be a problem, as for the customers, they got a great rep so that isnt the motivation. I know ALL the RR&R guys and they are VERY COOL. The hosted the SS8 Dyno day last year as well.

YEAH RIGHT. FIND ONE!!!!!! Do you know anyone personally or you just talking out your ***? I have been around here for awhile and I haven't seen ONE unhappy customer. The President of the socal miata club, ONLY recommends RR&R. I wish people would speak FACTS and save the cheap shots.
If the shop is shady Why did the socalRX7 club have there dyno day there?! Go back to Nissan's or at least come with FACTS before you run your mouth. Like I said, I challenge you to find 1 person that was burned by RR&R. Good luck!

^ I know a few including myself and yes, there are threads on it. I also have a friend that swers by them and I have "his" bad air pump they sold me in my garage. They don't know what a Greddy pully kit is, they have no idea what the nipple on the elbow is for, etc. I would prefer DYnamic Autosports but I still would go to RR&R for group day only because Steve will do the tune.

Don't call bullshit on me with your ******* 300 hefty posts. They did "work" on my car and decided not to tell me they stripped my intake manifold and instead of repairing it, ghetto rigged a bolt with a nut on top to hold my manifold on.

Or doing random garbage like replacing my block off caps with a hose and bolt which I had to go through and replace again because they all started leaking. Thats just some of it. Jackass, why dont you do your own search and read these stories, they've been posted a few times, then shoot off your mouth.

yes, figures please (dyno time+tuning)

louie and the gang at rotary reliability are super cool guys, they may have their dumbass moments, like the one time they forgot to rebolt my strut bar back on after putting everything back in my car, but i have had nothing serious go wrong. the only big problem i've had is with how rich XS tuned my car. They say that running rich is better than lean, but $140 set of hks plugs gone in less than 6 months is a bit sketchy. Plus the XS kit had a BOV that either was defective or had a retardedly stiff spring, i had compressor surge all the time up until about a week ago when i bolted my old one back on...I'm also pissed at how much XS charged to tune my car...lemme dig the figures up in my records

HOLY **** $719 DOLLARS, SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME A TIME MACHINE SO I CAN GO BACK AND BITCH SLAP SOMEONE...anyone else besides me think they should retune my car for free considering its the tuning that has caused all my problems since then...THATS ****** 2 STEVE KAN TUNINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what im trying to say is use common sense when you are diagnosing problems, these forums have basically everything you would ever need to know, then go tell them how it is and they will do good work. Initially when i bought the car i went to them knowing basically nothing about what i should have been doing to my car, they helped me gain a better understanding for my car and what i should expect from it, and what i shouldnt expect from it. its been a long, expensive road, but im a lot smarter now than i was then.

I would go back and do things differently and work on my car myself, if i only knew the things i know now...what has been $14k invested in modifications/repairs/labor could have been somewhere around 9-10k if I had done it myself

having steve tune my car is just one more smart step towards getting my car running the way it should be, i just need to make a few more additions to my car to get it ready.
