Put the stock exhaust on today.. boy o boy is it restrictive & quiet. No fun for me anytime soon

Ticket should arrive week-2 weeks. I just don't understand how I'm supposed to not drive my car in this waiting period. The CHP officer said if I'm driving I'll just get cited for the same thing, everywhere I've read said that I will get my car impounded as its a moving violation to drive with a ref ticket. I even called CHP and they said I'll get cited for the same thing also.. so.. thats why I drove around today...let alone swapped to stock exhaust. It's getting confusing and irritating... I planned a drive to Santa Barbara next week. Guess thats off.
Damn, dude was a dick. Isn't there a scheme where you could sell your car to someone, lets say a relative, and then buy it back

I currently had an Exhaust Fix It... and he gave me the ref anyway and referenced it on the ticket for modified exhaust. Which is a JOKE considering I already had a ticket from CHP before. They checked my car and were totally cool with it. This guy was on a power trip. Back up came as well..and he was like I have no idea why he's doing this but he's higher ranked than me and was certified for this. (No ordinary cop or CHP can give u a ref ticket...they have to take classes on modified cars/racing) That is my car in the avatar, car is painted... carbon hood and FMIC got his attention.

Also they were checking out my suspension..thinking my external reservoirs on my coilovers were "air ride suspension"

Dude you're exhaust is quiet enough and have the stock body. I think the front mount, widebody, and carbon hood were the red flags. Also your car is essentially stock as well as sequential.... even if you were to get a ticket.. I think you'd be fine. I'm just nail biting due to being non-seq all emissions removed even though air pump is in place. I don't throw any codes so I'm going to try and get away with just putting all the cats back on and removing the BOV. My intake, intercooler, etc is carb legal. Anyway... see you at Formula D!
non sequential doesn't affect emissions so it is not something that smog officials look for, you will however need all the solenoids that run the ACV, the ACV itself, the EGR valve and have the EGR valve on the car. so half of the rats nest won't be necessary but you will need to reinstall half of the system on top of the engine.

The movie is supposed to come out April 29. So if the movie is what is causing the heat to be turned up, then should cool down by June when the weather heats up.

actually, it does effect emissions. you would know WAY more about the complicated system of the turbo's than myself. but the turbo's are considered part of the exhaust system, and anything from the engine to the cat is considered part of the emissions. if i had a car come in for smog, and i saw that it was turbo'd, followed the vacuum diagram, and if anything was missing or modified, then i would fail it. any ref, any tech who has any idea what they are doing.
but then again im super ****, its why i would be a terrible cop. id be giving anyone with a modified car tickets, and actually know what im talking about lol.

it's a MAP based system, it will run 13.2 AFR at 3000 RPMs at 8PSI of boost whether on sequential twins or not. i guess i just don't see it the same way as the smog guys have been pigeonholed into believing.

^ Yeah, I don't blame the smog guys at all. Its their career and I wouldn't risk my career just to go against some dumb law that someone knowingly broke anyways.

OP, thanks so much for the warning. This really motivates me to recirculate my blow off valve and get my air pump hooked up.

Nice.

I wasn't so fortunate. Typically I get thumbs up from cops, chp, sheriff, etc no hassles at all. But this dude was a "drag net" member. Guys specifically look for modified cars. Super lame.

Sorry this happened to you.

Yeah they always threaten to tow... It's their go to card. But if you think about this logically: In other words they can't prove that you are breaking the law so they take away your personal property? On what grounds? It’s just a question for you to ponder…

But let’s say that you had your spare keys that day and you really couldn’t open your hood. Then what are you supposed to do? Seriously you’re screwed with nothing to lose at this point. Given that you are now in losing situation you should inform the officer (very respectfully) that you request the ‘lead officer on duty to witness the towing of the vehicle for lack of evidence’. That’s all you can do and it is obvious that you will file a complaint so no need to say it. Now if that officer is really bullshitting you he isn’t going to go through with it. Think about it from his perspective: Given that you are being very respectful, you are just a dumb kid who may have some illegal mods and who probably really did forget his keys (since you are willing to get your car towed). It’s just not worth it the hassle, besides you aren’t being a dick.

Get yourself a RB dual tip. IMO the best thing you can do is make your car as stealthy as possible to minimize your chances of getting pulled over. No loud exhaust, FMIC, CF hood, or gauges in the A pillar (if you have gauges there). Given that you are young + how your car looks = 100% match to what they are looking for.

Hmmm,

Not good news for someone contemplating turning a widebody v8 powered FC back into a daily driver. Maybe I should reconsider the tribal firebird emblem I've been considering for the new vented hood.

Anyone else on here refuse the hood pop?

Probable cause can be a damn sticker. They can, will, and have towed vehicles.
It is a game and they want your money. You have to pay to play and sometimes take it up the ***.
I keep a bail fund for tickets. I've already gotten one ref ticket. I paid it off and I was still able to register as normal.

Yoshi I would remove that plate from your post. People can snitch on you via a certain California government website.

Also his situation was different, he had locks that needed a key to open. From my understanding, if chp or sheriffs pull you over and ask to pop the hood, you have to. if its not a sheriff or chp car, you dont have to. Can anyone confirm this, or if not what is the current laws?

yeah if anyone has anymore information about not popping the hood or ways around this, i am GRATEFULLY all ears, but as of now...there's really no way around it...it's like we're playing Russian roulette every time we take our cars out...even if its just 5 minutes away from home

exhaust is probably cause and thats what he used against me. (After all I am straight turboback with no cats or resonators)

Stuff came in the mail $580 if its corrected. Haven't been to court yet to find out how much uncorrected... I've heard $1400 range.

Buddy with a RB swapped 240 got popped also. Wooo can't wait till they crack down at meets again ontop of these soaring gas prices. My last Summer in socal is gonna suck!
