so cali laws suck...act like you didnt know

so i bought a 03 is300 5speed ...hard to find you know....paid 2800 bucks for it ..salvaged title 45k on the chassie rod threw the block....bought a whole ned 2j to put into it....a couple of days ago i get a phone call from a buddy that works in a bodyshop and tells me this story..so when you crash a car and its totaled out by your insurence company, you buy it back and get it fixed you need to be inspected by chp to see if its road worthy...well the guy i bought my car from put alomst 10k on the chassie after it was wreck and did some super cheap repairs , starts the inspections FAILS and then doesnt finsh it and wreck it again...so now i come into the story..buy the cars start fixing it and then call the dmv to see whats up...they want all paper showing all replacement parts and where i got them from and what not..so in the end if i wanna get this car street legal ill need to basically replace the frame, whole front end, and it has to be from a legit company..its a lexas so its all $$$$...

so my friends dad with 20 year under his belt of bodywork says ill do it all for 1700 instead of the 5 grand approx but theres no paper work..so im thinking its time to build a new track car

just a hint..my 13brew needs a new home....

Sounds more like you just got gipped by the guy you purchased the car from. Put that 2jz and turn it into a track car Good luck either way.

Have you thought about getting it re-registered in a more friendly neighbor state? That way this situation is off the table the first time Cali DMV see's it.

^ agreed. If everyone who bought a salvaged title and rebuilt it, and then went through this, no one would have one on the road. I've seen all kinds of cars rebuilt and get valid registration. Oh well, sounds like you already out the door.
