since when does DP fail smog?

emissions passed fine. visual inspection failed due to down pipe. I guess this is standard CA smog rules...

last 2 times I got smogged, I had a dp and it passed fine. I have stock main cat, and rb catback.

where can I pass in the bay area?

and anyone have a pre-cat for sale? (never thought I would be asking for that!)

Look around for a tech that isn't a tight ***. Technically DP is Illegal, but a lot overlook it. Precats kill our cars anyways

Yeah that sucks you must have just gotten a tight wad. Next time talk to your tech let him no what the situation is before you agree to the test, he'll probably let you slide.

kinda funny story actually... the tech was definitely checking out the car with his mirror on a long rod, asking me all kinds of crap. kid actually thought I street raced. I offered him 200 bucks and he says "i dont do that" ... so L A M E. then he says, "yah, the state's really 'cracking down'" ... lol.

I guess that explains his shop is empty on a sat afternoon.. nobody was there or even came by within a 2 hour period...

if you think your car will pass with a presilencer instead of a main cat then sure, it will pass just fine.

It's hard to expect people to just hook you up with smogs. It is illegal and they can lose their jobs over it. Don't be a dick to them. They don't know you personally so maybe they think you're the cop or maybe they just know they don't owe you anything.

Maybe the guy was being a hater... Many smog shops don't put too much stock on the visual if the car passes at the physical level (where it counts anyway).

on the flip side, damn it is nice passing with a T-70, microtech and high flow 3' main cat here in NV legally!

Obviously you missed this part so I'll spell it out for you. Given that the CA smog certificate test is an objective test the tech has no business asking personal questions nor any questions for that matter. In adddtion accusing someone of an illegal activity where the is zero basis for that conclusion points to personal bias. Personal bias in this case = hater.

The owner of the smog shop will lose his business along with all the equipment in there. This happened to a customer at my dad's print shop. The guy said the state wont let you open up another shop after you've been closed down. I dont know if they black list your name for ever or for a few years after you get raped with fines.

Go to another shop and hope they're not **** about visuals. There's still plenty of shops out there who know that a shiny pipe wont do jack to your smog readings. What downpipe did you have?

The whole thing is a sham, as when you step on it and get into Turbo land, even a brand new Evo will fail, so it's all about checking boxes, some people just understand what boxes are important and which ones are not. But the bureaucrats in Sacramento don't care, and since they run stings all the time, unless you have a friend, or "know a guy" you can't just roll into a smog shop and flash some cash. That'll get his suspicions up fur sure...

Either way, it's all illegal, and discussing any details on how to circumvent "the system" is against forum policy, so tread lightly...

Just to clarify for people who don't know.

It is not illegal for a technician to ask questions to the customer no matter what it regards. If it helps the technician do his/her job then even better; whether it be personal or about the car.

Also, it is not illegal to fail a car that should have passed, but it is illegal to pass a car that should have failed. So remember people, always be on the good side of your smog technician.

It's not illegal to ask personal questions that's true... But what sort of personal questions would help you do your job? Like I said earlier it's an objective test either the car passes or it does not.

Since you've carried on this discussion to this extent i took a moment to review the thread you posted in.

I have come to the conclusion that either:

a.
you are a law enforcement officer trolling for information.

Or

b. you are indeed looking for an illegal inspection, in which case you lied to me directly in your previous message.

You write in your own thread of your own disregard for the bar inspection.

"someday i'm gonna open my own shop and i'll smog freggin drag cars, i dont care"

you also profess to have attempted to bribe the smog technician

. I offered him 200 bucks and he says

i think this would be a good place to end this discussion and refer to my original reply as parting is such sweet sorrow.

Thanks,

You might try posting in the west regional forums and see if someone there has some ideas.

Good luck,

All i asked was do you know of a place to get a smog check (obviously legal) in the bay area. Oringally i am from la.

My appologies... Please disregard my request.

greetings,

my understanding of this message is that you are soliciting an illegal smog inspection. I must advise you that obtaining a fraudulent inspection violates state and federal laws and can be prosecuted as a federal offense.

For this an other reasons i cannot recommend any illegal inspection stations. Additionally, i advise you to cease and desist your search for such a service on these forums.

If i learn that you are seeking such a service i will have no choice but to terminate your presence on these forums.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter,

I know its tough to find where exactly it says not to ask for an illegal smog hookup, so I went ahead and highlighted that thread as well as this thread. OP, PM me for my Paypal address.

those messages to DrKillJoy were private ... how you got them, I'm not sure... unless you are the same admin.
