RX7 shop in Los Angeles

This will serve as my thank you for a job well done by Gazo at J&G Auto in La Crescenta on Foothill Blvd.

I live in Arizona and have driven my newly acquired '87 Turbo II to So Cal a few times. On one of those return trips I began have problems with engine heat and coolant filling the overflow bottle, it made for a very long trip home.

After I got back to Kingman, I CAREFULLY filled the radiator being especially careful about getting all the air out. For the next couple of weeks I couldn't make the problem happen.

I made another trip to So Cal (with many parts, just in case) and ran into the same problem. I didn't try to change my water pump, radiator, and hoses at the side of the road because it was about 32° outside and very dark.

After arriving at my brother's house in La Crescenta I began looking for someone to do the work for me. I found a reference to Gazo and J&G on another forum and went to see what they would say about installing my reman'ed water pump and housing, the used Koyo radiator I had, and some silicon hoses I picked up.

Gazo took the car in that morning and had it ready the next day. The price was not especially cheap but was reasonable. I''ve gotten to the point where I care less about cheap than I do about getting a good job. I got a good job at J&G Auto.

No more overheat problems and no more coolant loss. I suspect that the problem may have just been the thermostat but I wanted to cover all the bases. A new thermostat came with the waterpump housing. I already knew the problem was not a radiator cap.

By the way, the waterpump (with housing, neck, cap, and thermostat) came from eBay. Advertised as a remanufactured unit for a starting bid of $65 I "bought it now" for $75. Works OK for now... The hoses are from another vendor on Ebay, ASI Performance, they are cheaper versions of other's silicon hoses. I got them for about $48 a set (upper and lower radiator). They fit OK with a little trimming.

While I was at J&G, I noticed someone's FD in for service and a couple of R100 projects. I also noticed there is a chassis dynomometer at J&G.

Yeah, that was my gold FC. It was your post on rotarytuner that sent me there, thanks. I told Gazo that was where I heard about him and it sounded like he frequents these forums so I thought it was an appropriate place to say thanks...
