Rx-7 engine problem!! Need Help!

Hi all,

My 7 had a problem in the engine because it would not start and a few days ago the car was started with a cable with jump start. Drive it for 20 minutes through highway for about 20 miles. and then I drive it home and stopped the engine. After 2 hours I came back down to the car because I left something in the car and then I am curious about whether I can start the engine or not so I try and the worst thing came that I cannot start my engine again. What should I do to make it work? I really need help with these.. Thank you very much..

First suspicion (if it will start with a jump) is that you need a new battery, possibly a new alternator, but you might want to clean your battery connections & make sure your grounds are tight first.

I agree with DivinDriver's suggestions.

You are in Singapore? Why post here in the West when you could post in your particular "generation" forum.?

you need to check your voltage readings. sounds like bad grounds from not starting and wacky reactions. the oil would have nothing to do with this.

how do you check your voltage readings? you need to buy a voltmeter and check out the generation section to find proper schematics (drawings) to show what current should be going where.
OR you could also do what divin driver suggested originally and clean your connections and hope that solves all the issues. it most cases, it should. i would not go down other paths, like oil issues, until you rule this first solution out.

The car is located at Mountain View.

I had a question about how to maintain a car when I have to leave for vacation around 1 week to 3 months. What should I do If I go for a vacation for around 2 weeks to 3 months. Please tell me for the maintain so that the engine will work normally. Thank you

3 months, all I'd do is make sure the gas tank is full, tires are at full pressure, and disconnect the battery so it doesn't go flat. That, & park it somewhere safe, preferably indoors.

If you were really paranoid, you could put some Sta-Bil or Seafoam in the tank to stabilize the fuel, but with a full tank your evaporation will be minimal.

2 weeks, not even necessary to worry about.

No special storage measures are needed unless you're dealing with 6 months or more of non-operation.

the car revving to 8k is a bad clutch, the car only starting with a jump starter is either bad battery cables/connections or a bad battery.

you don't have to do anything special to store a car for up to 3 months.

the battery won't hold a charge for that amount of time without periodical starting, leave a trickle charger on the car or disconnect the battery if you plan on leaving it unattended for 2 weeks or more. sometimes external draws can kill off the battery quicker too, like aftermarket alarm systems.

Yep. The constant 12V feed for my stereo (keeps the clock and stations programming live) will kill my battery dead in about three-four weeks. I always disconnect it when I'm not gonna drive it for a while.

Hi all,

Mostly people on the forum suggest to disconnect the batter if I left it unattended for more than 2 weeks, so I had another question which is how to disconnect the battery? Thanks

I think you might need to have a mechanic look at your car...

I know you are trying to learn, but it would probably help you to try and find someone local to help you look at your car.

well you are trying to use this forum remotely to solve the issue.

I agree you need to go to a mechanic or autozone or an automotive alternator specialist to help you out.

i couldn't explain it any simpler without driving over there, hitting you over the head and fixing your car for you.

so the above replies are probably a good advice to take.

If you do, the car won't be leaving the mechanic. Seeing as it won't start with the battery disconnected.

In all honesty, if you don't know how to disconnect a car battery, you need some one-on-one tutoring by someone a bit more knowledgeable before you start trying to fix things. It'd save you a lot of frustration/pain/damage/money/injury.

A battery has two terminals (posts), a Positive post and a negative post. There is a cable attached to each one. They are secured with a horseshoe shaped clamp. You must loosen the bolt or nut that is holding the clamp tight on the terminal. Then remove the cable from the battery post. You have now successfully disconnected your battery.
