For those who don't want to think your plain jane big wheel fitment is
Front: 225/45r17 tires on 17x8+35 wheels
Rear: 255/40r17 tires on 17x9+38 wheels
I'm posting up because threads like this can be so missleading. You really need to bee careful about what you see and hear out there... Some folks definition of "not rubbing" with "no fender mods" is pretty entertaining.
Not to pick on Robert, but I guess I'm gonna.
Admittedly he doesn't claim that these don't rub (it's just kind of implied)
because from my experience there's no way in hell that these should fit in my old fashioned "never rub anywhere, ever, even over a bump with the front tires at full lock kind of way." It's just that then he posts up pics that clearly show the fronts have fender wear in the corner of the tread that cracks me up.

When you select wheels and tires ALL the specs matter and you pretty much have to figure out and understand what works according to your definitions of fit. Some folks just never get it... Like this guy:
First off, most folks here would agree that can go bigger so ignore this newb. Clearly he didn't know what the hell he was doing. Second, a full cm clear to the spring is plenty (it just means you can't run a tire with more than ~20 mm more section width than the wheel: 10 mm will stick out on each side.) If you want to get into it, you really have to measure your wheels because the width numbers everyone keeps throwing around are where the bead sits and doesn't include the lip on the wheel (same thing goes for diameter, a 17" wheel measured at the bead surface is a bit taller in reality).
My personal experience says that that MAX tire section width you can get on stock unmodded fenders is 225 up front and 265 in the back: that's with perfect offsets (+35 front, +38 rear) and assumes you don't cheat using camber to lean the wheels in under the fender. On fenders with the lips rolled under that grows to 235 front, 275 rear. On fenders with the lips stretched (AKA rolled the **** out of) now we're talking 245 front 285 rear.
Again:
Your plain jane big wheel fitment is
Front: 225/45r17 tires on 17x8+35 wheels
Rear: 255/40r17 tires on 17x9+38 wheels
You can vary the specs a bit -- AKA more width if you like stretched tires (but you just added weight for no reason), run 18s if you like band aids for tires, or vary offsets slightly (~+/- 3mm) -- but that's it.
Yeah you can go more aggressive, but it can get stupid on you. This combo is nice in that the total tire height is the same (45% of 225mm ~equals 40% of 255 mm). It also doens't have so much stagger that you'll understeer like a **** in the corners. Wheel fitment often tests the limits of form vs. function.
If you're at all concerned in making these choices yourself. Borrow a set of wheels from a friend, take some measurements and adjust accordingly. You need to decide on:
-Wheel bolt pattern (if you get this wrong there's no helping you)
-Wheel diameter
-Wheel width
-Wheel offset (distance from centerline of wheel to mounting face)
-Tire width
-Tire section height (2x section height plus wheel diameter = total tire height)
-Match tires to wheel diameter (again, if you get this one wrong...
)
I'll assume for the moment that no one who has to ask the question is running brakes big enough to worry about spoke clearance.
Do the math, check the numbers and think for yourself... You'll never get anywhere wrenching on cars if you don't.

i ordered some rims, oz ultraleggeras 17x8 and they did not fit, they where less than a centermeter away from the springs and the tires would had rubbed. so i got some 17x7 and the biggest i was able to fit is 215's in the front and 225 in the back. you cant fit any bigger than 225 in the back becasue the rim is only 7 inches wide and the tire is to wide for the rim.

when they put my oz's on it was a mm away from the shocks,"my are after market tokico?" anyways if i had spacers they could probably fit. you might be running differen't shocks spacers or what have you. IF YOUR ARE RUNNING STOCK EVERYTHING YOU CAN'T FIT 8 INCH WIDE RIMS, the biggest you can fit is 215's in the front. they tryed 225's. i could not go 8 inch's wide in the back. 7 inchs wide does not support 245's. so i went 17x7 with 215's in the front " they try fitting every bigger size out there" and 17x7 in the back 225. this is with no spacers. The guys at the shop showed me what fits a doesn't. i'll post pics up later today

See post above.
so here is a pic with the tire close to my shock, i'm glad with my decision on getting the 215's up front becasue i'm getting over spray on my fenders, if i went bigger i would spray alot more and clean more. but thanx for educating me so i know what todo if i decide to make a side project car. here's some pics of my ride enjoy
got the rims for free becasue they hit my ride "dscount tire co"

I'm planning to run
Front: 225/45r17 tires on 17x8+45 wheels
Rear: 255/40r17 tires on 17x9+38 wheels
I know the front offset is all wrong but I'm hoping a spacer (dunno what size, 10mm I guess) will help without having to roll the fenders. Yes? No?

my first rim opotion was black, then i got them but they didn't fit. so i asked them what they had in stock and got them "since thread was literally hanging from my tire" but i got them for free so i'm not going to complain
