Andrew - Sorry to hear about your motor, but you have one amazing car that I think has the potential for Street RWD podiums and wins.

What a crazy weekend. The track conditions were worse than any time attack i've been to at Buttonwillow. I would guess the track conditions were anywhere from 0.5-1.5 seconds slower depending on the session due to the heavy winds kicking up dirt onto the track and the excessive offs. There were over 60 street-class cars competing, some of them need a little more seat time to be able to keep their cars on the track.

This weekend saw some track records fall (despite the poor track conditions):

Street FWD:
previously held by the Evasive Civic SI (Mike C.) - 2:03.557

2:00.552 - Mazdaspeed/Playstation/Bergenholtz Racing Mazda 3 (Dino).

Unlimited RWD:
previously held by C-West/BC S2000 (my buddy Tyler McQuarrie) - 1:46.893

1:45.516
- FX Motorsports Development/Cricket Wireless/Yokohama Tire/KW Suspension NSX (Billy Johnson).

This is also the fastest US-built Time Attack car, with only 2 Japanese-built cars that are faster (Tomei/Cusco STI - 1:44.3 and HKS EVO - 1:43.5).

With 3 overall wins and track records under their belt (Laguna Seca, Long Beach, Buttonwillow), the FX Motorsports Development NSX is the fastest time attack car in the USA.

Our Story:

I'd like to thank all of our sponsors for making all of this possible:

FX Motorsports Development
Cricket Wireless
Yokohama Tire
KW Suspension - 3/way race dampers
Uehara Motowerks
Downforce.biz - Aero
RC Fuel Injectors
BREMBO - F50/Lotus caliper and 2pc rotor
Performance Friction Brakes (PFC 01)
FIX & STACK Restaraunt in Las Vegas
GoPro Motorsports Hero

Our team (FXMD) has been working on this car for months, pulling all-nighters to get it finished in time. The NSX platform has a lot of shortcomings in the oiling department, and with no other NSX tuning shop making as much power while cornering as fast, we are paving the way and have to solely figure out the solution to the problems presented from going this fast. The whole team has done an amazing job, most of which you can't see by looking at the car. Once our dry-sump system is finished, the reliability of the car will be 100%. We had a accusump failure which prevented us from running it (had no backup), but the internal changes the team did to the car made it hold up to the abuse that caused it to blow up in the past. After tearing the transmission down and finding out what happened, we will be that much further ahead in terms of reliability with the aim of taking the overall record of 1:43.5 held by the HKS EVO. It's attainable, the platform has the potential, and we are looking forward to the next one.

Thanks,

-Billy Johnson

I ended up making it out on Sunday. Drove my truck though as my fd wouldn't start.

Some awesome cars in all three classes. I was hanging out with the Crawford guys. The Cricket NSX was super fast. Too bad about the transmission.

Neat event. They need to work on event momentum though. Kinda slow and lots of time with the cars not on the track. All in all fun though.

I hope to enter my 'gasp' neon in one of the events later this year in the street class once I get it out here. I'm just curious to see where it would stack up against some of the more modestly prepared street class cars.

No worries buddy, **** happens! It's just a material thing, it can be replaced

But I'll definitely accusump it before I go out next time/let you drive!

And of course, major props to BJ and the FX crew! I think on a "good" day and a few tweaks, you guys will be well on your way to having the fastest closed-wheel car at BW!

I lost a motor at the rally in Mexico the same weekend so I feel your pain!

Looks like it was a fun event. I may be back someday (but with a different FD... my "Rally" FD is now for sale).
