You can put in for historical vehicle plates, but that means giving it up as a daily driver; Events only, and you still have to maintain original equipment, though you no longer have to be tested.

It's easy. Take your rx7 emblem off and put it on a pre 75 old school car.

convert your FB, FC and FD into diesel or propane. have it inspected by the proper authority (DMV or smog ref whatever), then switch it back to rotary. its that simple but costly. In fact, Im thinking of buying a diesel rabbit from the 80s then convert it to gas.

Historical plate is bullshit. I've inquired on that already with my prior SA and FB but they dont fit the category per several DMV offices (yeah, I inquired at different locations just to see) including triple A. 75 and below are smog exempt

That sounds like Wankel rotaries could easily be passed as historic vehicles. Give them proof of the car shows and the weekly meets some of us go to and I bet theres a good chance they'll give you historic plates. The only issue I can see a problem is the aforementioned mileage issue. I have heard through word of mouth before that historic vehicles can only travel a set maximum number of miles per year.

if youre military, just go to any other random state that doesnt require smog, and get it registered there, all you have to do is show a copy of your orders, or an ID

haha, the bio fuel idea i found to be the best idea to be smogged exempt. there are many ways to convert your car to bio, ...non-poluter. new thing to try, i wonder how ethanal would fare in a rotary?? powerloss or powergain with the right tunning, but it will be smog exempt.
or become a detective and use it as your work car...haha classify as historic vehicle, get a jdm fc change to aftermarket parts and classify as kit car, um there is prolly more...

so is it true that historical plates make you smog exempt? I haven't read anything about that. If so, my 85 will be 25 years old next year . It's always worth a shot.
