THIS THREAD SUCK!!! the most stupidiest thread I've ever read in the west forum. Who gives a ****. Besides, you got it all wrong. It should be 75 and below; not 76 and older.

Test only is random unless you have previously failed as gross poluter. Test only also means nothing. Try to find a "non" test only shop. Even less likely find one that can repair rotary. Mine has never been flaged test only.

76' cars will be next year, but after that it don't go any further because around mid 70s is when everything was really smog regulated. My father is the manager of three shops that are "NON" test only shops. It basically means that the shop does more than smog related work. I haven't gone for smog with my LS1 swap yet but considering it is a low emissions motor I will have no problems. Hell, My motor pollutes less cruising 70mph down the highway than a rotary does turned off sitting in a driveway!

The 30 year rolling Smog Check exemption is dead. http://tinyurl.com/6a838 If you own a 75 or older car, you are exempt now. If you own a 1976, it will never be exempt.

I am off by one on the Poll question " No, I'm exempt, '76 or older vehicle." Should be '75 or older...

This is a timely thread renewal.

My recent renewal for S4 TurboVert is indeed Test/Gold Shield Only. Always amazes me as I always pass legitimately with tons of room to spare. Doesn't matter to me as the place I normally go to is a Test Only shop anyway.

The DMV clearly broad brush our cars with no reference to past experience.

Sidebar, my win streak may get a hick-up this time around as I'm going to experiment to see if 680's in my secondaries will still pass the 25 mhp portion of the test. I just can't see that an additional 130cc's will make that much difference at that level. I put them in as an over engineering thing to protect my (now new) engine. If the experiment is a fail, I'll just put the 550's back in for the retest.

did you know that almost half of california does not require smog?

http://www.bar.ca.gov/80_BARResource...rogram_Map.pdf

of course you have to know someone who lives there.

You don't have to do smog in those areas where test is only required when changing ownership because no one lives there.

Well, no one except the lucky few. Also, the DMV might get suspicious if 500+ RX7 owners get their DMV mail at the same address.............

it also won't keep you from getting reffed, but at least not have to worry about annual/bi-annual smogs.

I love how I'm in the small part of San Bernardino county that requires "enhanced" smog checks. Whats the difference between basic and enhanced smog?

enahanced is a dyno smog, basic is a non loaded stationary smog.

depending on the vehicle sometimes it can be worse off with the roles reversed, ie some cars burn cleaner under a load while some burn cleaner without a load.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that testing procedure sounds really ridiculous.
