I have heard it both ways.

My smog is due in May and I'm crossing my fingers that it's not going to be a Test Only station.

Or is it a random selection of vehicles?

Or is it based on past emission results?

my 7 is not test only, it was when it was to be transferred from when it was registered in LA now that it is transferred and registered in northern cali the red flag has disappeared.

 

I read somewhere that it was turbo manufactured cars that were 10yrs and older that had to go through test only... (dont take my word for, just what i read somewhere)

Not all are but many rx7s have been getting it lately. I know I did.

my 90 TII was NOT test only but that was for a transfer, not sure when i have to renew registration

 

most enhanced areas probably you guys will get popped left and right for test only, turbo has nothing to do with the test only flag, it is basically just the years our cars were made. most mid 80's cars were horrible for smog so they get nailed with test only flags all the time but only in enhanced areas (Sacramento, San Jose, San Fransisco, LA, SD, etc, etc, etc). i only hope the enhanced area does not reach my home, the closest test only facility to my house is 40 miles.

I smogged my '92 ES300 2 months ago at a regular smog shop. Didn't require a test only station.

I hope most 7's don't have to. A friend is going to register his '93 FD in a few weeks so I will let you know.

 

I had it too. I finish the Test Only Smog already.

 

Get use to it, I have heard rumors that in the few years all cars will have to be tested at smog only stations. There will be no more normal smog stations.

If there were only Test Only stations how would cars be repaired to pass smog? I believe ths the only major difference between test only and non test only is that test only stations cannot do repairs.
