Planning another Horsethief Mile track day

We're planning another HTM track day at Willow Springs and I want to get some feedback. The last event was awesome, but we only had 15 or so cars show up and that made the track day pretty expensive for me. So this time I want to see how many people are interested in a track day before I reserve the event.

We'd like to hold the event in March, on a Saturday. I'll have an exact date when we reserve the track.

Just like before, it'll cost $100 to run the track, but I'll need the money no later than 2 weeks before the track date. For 2 weeks up to the track date, we'll still take reservations if we have room, but the price will go up to $130. 30 spots maximum.

This time, we'll allow drifting and split the track time between drifters and normal driving. If you are interested in the track day let me know what kind of driving you'd like to do in your reply.

Let me know!

Glenn, I'm interested. My car should be ready by then. All I have left to do is fabricate a battery bracket to pass tech. I'd like to do normal driving.

PS. Did you receive my PM?

I got your PM this morning but I'm at my 8-5 job. I'll dig those pics up for you over the next couple days, I'm gonna be very busy at the shop the next couple of nights.

I might go depending on when it is in March. Have you ever thought about renting Streets out? I'm sure we could get A LOT more people and I prefer Streets a bit more

I would love to do Streets but that's an expensive proposition...if enough people were interested, or a small group of people were willing to put up more money to cover the track, I'd be all over it.

Hey Mike, I saw your post but I didn't realize you had something in there for the 2nd of March. Looks like I might try to put something together for the Streets but HTM will still be an alternative. I wouldn't mind hitting up the track with you guys but I want to grip the track as do many of the people who've been inquiring about the event. If there are more drifters than grip drivers, the track ends up getting pretty messy and we'll get less time...that's been my observation in the past with other events.

If everyone wants to run the Streets, here's a breakdown of cost:

Track rental: $3000
Insurance: $700
Corner workers: around $400
Fire/Rescue services: $630

Total: $4730

With 15 drivers: 316 per driver
With 20 drivers: 237 per driver
With 25 drivers: 190 per driver
With 30 drivers: 158 per driver

Obviously the more drivers the better, but it seems to be hard to get that many drivers to commit. In order to make this happen I need to put down a deposit of 50% ($1500) and we can choose a date. So the real question is how much would everyone be willing to pay? 20 drivers would be sick at the Streets, that would be 4 hours of run time per group! Not bad for $237 IMO. Another thought is if everyone would be willing to come to the track on a weekday, we can get the track for $2250 instead of $3K which would drop the rates.

What do you all think?

Everyone call in sick and make it a weekday!

That way the rates are better and we get more fun for less

HTM is only $1500 cheaper overall, its still something like $2900 total including the required insurance, fire/rescue and corner workers. It definately makes the Balcony with a $750 rental rate much more appealing, considering that WSIR doesn't require you to have corner workers for that track. But it gets boring after a while...I prefer the Oval for drifting myself.

I'd be willing to pay 150-250 for streets. If you can list some possible weekday dates, I might skip school if it's not on an exam week.

If we do it on a weekday, with 20 people it will be $199 per person...that's not bad at all. If everyone is in agreement about holding it on a weekday then the deposit is $1125. I need at least 5 people to sign up to help get the money together, then we can get a date...

Okay, we had a change in plans. We've decided to go with Horsethief Mile and the date will be in April. We should be reserving the track by next Monday and will post up dates & prices then. Right now we've got 5 people lined up for sure with another 5 about to sign up. I'll let everyone know on Monday what happens.
