OH NO, I freaked out when I saw this!
I've never drifted really, not my sport. It's commonly filled with "ricers", involves sliding around wasting your tire life, yep totally fun!
and I never hit a curb, brah.
If I was given a 2nd gen, I'd just take what i could use on my fb and scrap the metal
:]

It's a base S4, I could care less about it. Not even the right color body panels for my car... There was a base S4 with Arctic Silver paint that I was kinda grumbling about. But honestly, I'll just hit up Maaco or the Krylon/Rustoleum aisle at the local Wal*Mart if I want paint that bad.
I towed my 1986 GXL outta some guy's yard for $250.
My beef is not really with the RX-7's that I see turned in... Or the Vettes... Or the DeLorean that I saw turned in... While sad, it was a side effect.
I was more concerned about the minivans and pickup trucks... All the late 90's to mid 2000's Jeep Cherokees and Ford Windstars and ****.
Let me explain. My beef was with the facts that:
-These cars are useful to someone.
-To destroy something that has a useful life left in it is senseless and wasteful.
-They were using MY tax dollars to spend on this. What do I get in return? What does the government get in return? Nothing. Because they paid $3500-4500 for a car and then DESTROYED it. At least resell them to poor people for $1000-$2000.

As I said to others on this forum, I know someone who is a single mother of four that is low income. (I won't open the can of worms that are my thoughts on this, as that won't change anything.) I'd very much like to see her be able to take care of those kids and keep her job steady and such. Recently the transmission in her Dodge Caravan went as Chrysler automatics tend to do.
I had to give them my Girlfriend's old car... A 1998 Honda Accord with the following problems:
-Previous owners installed an APC cold air intake with cone filter. The dirt the engine sucked in caused the rings to start going so it's burning oil.
-Previous owners tried to seal a transmission leak with JB weld, so I couldn't get the proper oil seal to fit. As such, it dumps tranny oil all over the ground.
-Due to lack of lubrication, the 5/R shift fork is shot as well as most of the synchros. The bearings are whining and it's only a matter of time before it fails completely.
But it's running and is enough to get her to and from work and to kids' doctors appointments and such.
Neither car qualifies for Cash for Clunkers. The Dodge is not drivable and the Honda gets too good of fuel economy.

This program does not help her, as it requires a new car purchase. She can neither get financing, nor make the payments. Au contraire, it hurts her, because I will not as easily be able to find a scrapyard tranny for that Caravan... Or buy another used Caravan off the used car lot...
You know what. Just read the letter. It summarizes everything nicely.

^^I couldn't agree more. I daily drive my FC and with the cost of insurance and gas I spend roughly around $200 a month.
Now on my wife's new car, the payment alone is more than what I spend on my FC! Not to mention full coverage insurance is required when financing a vehicle, plus the cost of gas. Total cost is like double of the FC.

IMO this program is a waste. You junk your running car for a car that is even more costly all together.Waste of tax dollars and another form of a bailout thats gonna screw us even more in the end
