I'm going to be visiting Mountain View for a couple days and I'll have some free time. Do you have any recommendations for sight seeing or places to eat?

I heard about a cool Taco Stand so that's going on my list.

that taco stand is about 25 miles north of mountain view....

Mountain view is kinda drab...not much there.....Downtown Palo Alto is nice though...good restaurants and coffee shops...

 

word, I live close by, and not much going on in mv, though most eating places are on castro street, lots of various ethnic foods. Downtown pa has nicer places and not too far off...

 

Not sure there's any sights to see.

 

what about shoreline ampitheatre? well, only if you like grass, which would be kind of weird

 

stanford university is kinda neat, if you like old buildings and palm trees, other than that... i'd make the drive and check out sf, way more interesting that anything in this area...

jr year in high school, we took a field trip with AVID and I saw, OMG OMGMGOMGO, CORY MATHEWS! he had a beard and had the velcro hair still going on.

 

Stanford is close. I'm actually thinking of driving up to Berkeley too. I checked and the amphitheater doesn't seem have any shows. I guess it's getting cooler so the season is over. I just checked and Mountain View is around 54F (or 12C). That sounds warm to me because here it's -19C, that's about zero Fahrenheit.

 

wow, and i though 54ºF was cold. haha, i hate cold weather

 

Damn, there's a ton of fun stuff to do around the Bay Area.
Malibu Grand Prix is a Go Kart track in Redwood City, that's fun if it's not rainy.
You can take a trip to the City to check out China Town/Pier 39/Ocean Beach, or you can drive out to the coast. That Taco Bell in Pacifica is just a lousy Taco Bell. There's a lot of great little taco stands around here. Lotsa ag fields=Lotsa farm workers=lotsa great mexican food places.
Pretty much everything south of Half Moon Bay is beautiful central/Norcal coastline...you can check out Mavericks, home of some of the biggest surf in the world, or maybe stop up at Devils Slide, where the road is about 2000 feet above the ocean. Maybe a drive up Hwy 35 to Alice's restaraunt. That's the place made famous by some hippy in the 60s when he stopped in a wrote a song about it. Great burgers!

I love the Bay Area.

 

*laugh* I used to live where -40F was normal and it somtimes hit -60F. It is not always cold. The summers often have days above 100F.

Thanks for the advice Natey. I was going to drive an hour (total, both ways) for a Taco Bell.

 

If you want a GREAT burrito, I recommend La Costana, which is a little hole in the wall joint on Rengstorff, like 3 lights west of the freeway on the left.

They have been voted Mountain Views best burrito for 3-4 years running.

There is a brewery called the tied house in downtown that has some great microbrews and food. www.tiedhouse.com

Lastly on the corner of El Camino and San Antonio is Chef Chus, which is Zagats best chinese food on the peninsula for like 10 years running.

I just graduated from Stanford, so I know the area pretty well. Let me know if you need anymore suggestions.

Chef Chus ain't so hot. That clown owner copied my bosses menu/entrees (Mandarin Gourmet). Get the real deal, Mandarin Gourmet, not a copycat whos entrees are not as good . There are 3, one in downtown Palo Alto, another in Cupertino, & a 3rd in San Jose (off 85 & Santa Theresa).

Want some mexican or Salvadorean food go down to the mission district in SF. SF is very diverse place. Want Italian there is Italian, want chinese there is chinese, want japanese there is japanese, want some mexican/salvadorean there mexican/salvadorean, want vietnamese there is vietnamese. SF is great place, there is ocean view, coit tower, pier 39, downtown area is nice but juss stay away from the tenderloin. Chinatown, crowded but nice place to visit, and maybe the mission, if u r latin i dont think u want to wear red or blue there. Also stay away from 3rd street last time i got lost there, i almost got jack at gun point.
