NEVER EVER Drive your FD to SFO airport!!!

So my Maxima broke down right when i got the FD running. Today I went to SFO to pick up a friend in the FD. I picked her up and we're leaving when an SFPD pulls me over. He says "your car has a modified exhaust and vehicles with modified exhaust are involved in Street Racing." I said polietely "i dont think its fair for you to judge me as a street racer because of what i drive." He said he didnt say Im a street racer but my vehicle is involved in street racing. He asks me to turn my car left and right. After that asks me to pop my hood. He looks at the stock elbow and asks is that legal? i was like yes, that is OEM. He points to my stock Mazda airbox and asks if thats legal. I said yes, that is all OEM Mazda. He asks me if i heard of CARB and what i do for a living. I told him a own an auto repair business. He looks at the Greddy pulley kit and says that isnt OEm. I said no its not but it has nothing to do with emmissions. He sees that my battery was missing a tie down and he said that is in violation. He also said 1 of my ground wires was loose so thats in violation. He said he would cite me for headlights being below 22 inches but he doesnt have a tape measurer. While talking to him, a modified Eclipse drives by and he said "there goes another one but i can only get one of you at a time" He comes back with my ticket for modified exhaust, no front plate, expired insurance, and unsafe equipment. He also noted below it that i have low suspension, and blue theme. He pulls out a binder showing his certificates, and says "im sure you have certificates in your trade" He talks about 96 deaths last year due to street racing and blah blah. After that he says i can leave and says "i didnt mean to disrespect you by calling you a street racer" Im thinking hey thanks for being a nice guy! So yea, dont drive your FD to SFO airport.

If your exhaust is under the legal limit you can get that infraction dropped by getting it tested. I think the front plate might be a fix it ticket. I would find out what the hell qualifies as unsafe equipment too. If it was due to the lame *** loose grounds/ battery tie down, that is easily fixable. GO TO COURT and do it right with pictures and documentation. If your within 90 days of the tags being due, get a passing smog if you need it, it might help your fight. Explain to the judge that if the cop doesnt know the differance between OEM and aftermarket/illegal how can he rightfully cite you?

I remember my uncle were saying they can not pull over for traffic violation, they are there to secure the airport. Also then the other ares giving out ticket for parking on the curb. I dont think the cop knows what he is looking for. I remember a Daly City Cop pull me over and wrote me on everything when my TII was stock.

they are sending me to the state ref for the exhaust. My engine bay is pretty much all stock. except for emissions equipment is removed. He didnt kno what to look for with that. I have a lawyer contact thats gotten my friend out of a state ref ticket before. He's expensive. Ill kno what to do in a few days/weeks.

Turbo95Max, I got a ticket for my exhaust the other day. Check out my thread about it: https://www.rx7club.com/west-rx-7-forum-193/got-illegal-exhaust-ticket-kinda-long-613391/

Hopefully it will help you get out of the exhaust ticket.

Wow, it's BS like this that makes me glad I don't register my cars in this retarded state! This is simply getting out of hand now. I don't understand how this keeps being allowed and people's complaints of harassment are being ignored.

Just cause you register you cars Out of State doesn't mean
1) You're not breaking the law (can get a tiket for it)
2) Have to abide by the state's laws... you're in...

But I hear you this is getting stupid....

Wow, sorry to hear that is some screwed up stuff. The hassle of doing all that "fix it" for some BS is a damn waste of time and not so much the $$$. Hmmm, I wonder what happens if you refuse to pop the hood when 5-0 asks??

On a different note, which catbacks are legal where they can't **** with you on?? I heard some Greddy's were.

You would think those idiots have better (more important) things to do at the airport than to go flagging down any cars with an exhaust tip larger than a pencil

Oh **** for a turbo timer!!! That's a first I've heard, prob thought it was a timer for a bomb.

why would you pay a lawyer?

most i've heard it is for the exhaust is about $500 if you don't even visit the ref and just pay the ticket, i'm sure a lawyer would cost more that that..

Sorry to hear about that matt. that really sucks

yea seriously this whole getting pulled over for mods thing is starting to get ridiculous. People are started to get pulled over for anything now.

I go onto the evo and sti boards just to check out peoples cars and look at their meet pics. I always see threads where they are getting pulled over and cited for their stock Front Mounts,Big Spoilers,Turbos. I even saw one where a guy got pulled over for his vortex generators the spiky things on top of evos

Yeah, but so does the money the state gets from the tickets he hands out...

I ******* hate ******* cops, there's nothing that pisses me off more than the kind of person who decides to misuse their power to cover for when they're poorly informed on something. You're a goddamned civil servant, your purpose is to make life better, not to turn normal peoples' days upside down. ****'s sake. /bitching
