need help with tranny swap in TEMECULA CA, 92592
im just too broke to take my car to the shop and get charged 3-400 bucks for a tranny swap, i'll need 2 more jackstands and a tranny jack and someone who knows what they are doing, assuming they have the free time and nothing better to do. bad side is i dont have garage access and we will be doing it on the street.
if anyone around my area is interested in helping out with a tranny swap on my FC, please PM me! i will find some way to pay you back or buy you a six pack of beer =)

^lol you give up easy, you don't need a tranny jack and two more jack stands to do this swap, it’s actually pretty strait forward (I'd say a 4 out of 10 on the difficulty scale lol), just time consuming. Do some searching and ask what questions you need in the 2nd gen forum and I imagine you can do it yourself. Well that is if you have any mechanical knowledge at all lol.
Bench pressing the trans up there is a real pleasure but not rocket science. You can use a floor jack and tie the trans to it with a bunjee cord or just manhandle the friggin thing.
Disconnect the battery before touching that starter. And have patience.

I put a trans in the repu a few weeks ago. Got it all bolted together, checked the starter was wired up right. Then I see the throwout bearing and fork sitting on a shelf in the garage. ****. Redo. Doh!
I found the fastest way to get it in there is cradle the trans in your lap while you grab the end of the tailhousing with your hands. With the bellhousing between your knees. Like you're giving birth to a 5-speed. PUUUUUUSSSSHHHH!!!!

its easier to tie a piece of rope from handbrake to the tailshaft and keep it elevated. it means, bellhousing down with tailshaft touching the tunnel. bench press that bitch and use your knees to lift the tailshaft to line up the tranny to the engine. also, for FC, grab a piece of wood and your scissor jack and place it in the front pulley or front section of oil pan as the motor will tilt.
be sure to have the bolts and wrench handy

i just set the tranny on a floor jack and maneuver it with one hand while jacking it myself(lol) or having an assistant jack it(lol) up while aiming it.
what can i say, im a sissy with no *****.
actually, before this car i was thinking of starting another subaru project but this car was so damm cheap i couldnt resist. and then the problem with the transmission came, it gets stuck in reverse almost eveytime i check in and out of that reverse gear.
so selling it and going for my original plan with the subaru inst really a bad idea.......
