need help bad

hey guys I just moved to las vegas, nv from daytona beach, fl. anyways, I had my FD shipped here because there was no way to get it here otherwise, but my problem is this.... it left my house with no leaks of any kind whatsoever. besides my dad starting it and driving it this once to go meet the transport driver (I was already enroute to NV in a uhaul truck), nobody drives it besides me.

the truck arrives last night and the driver informs me that my car is leaking oil... strange I think because it wasnt when it left (my dad confirmed this, it was true when I was there 3 days prior to leaving for NV), but maybe he just saw it was dirty underneath because it kind of is. he said it didnt look like it was coming from the oil pan, but maybe it was coming from the filler cap (?)...... anyways he proceeds to start my car and unload it from the truck, the whole time I am watching oil not drip, but pour from what was the oil pan. at this point I am confused not only because he told me it WASNT the oil pan, but because there is nothing in the middle of the truck for it to hit.

now, they are only supposed to drive the cars they haul long enough to get them off and on the trailer when they pick up or drop off other cars enroute. but this bastard had to have done something! the oil pan doesnt just start a fountain on its own does it?!!? how long and how many times did he drive it like this? im ******* going crazy here! my car is dirty as ****, and im afraid to even drive it to get it washed, even making sure I have enough oil. im scared of what damage might be done to the engine already, im scared that we got insurence for the car to be transported safely but the insurence company is trying to say they only cover "exterior" damage.

any advice on what to do? any good rotary shops in or near las vegas I can get the car towed to, to be looked at? please, any information at this point will help me. I am totally new to this area and dont know anybody in the rotary or even cars in general scene here. please help me before I go freakin crazy!!!!!!!!

thanks for any help

if it only squirts out when the engine is running, it's probably not the pan. i'd think it was a pressurised line somewhere.

check from the front cover to the oil cooler(s), then back up to the oil pedestal and you might find the leak. after you determine where it is, you might be able to get a better idea of what caused it--be it coincidence, or the driver's fault..

I'm not to familliar with Fd's but from what i've seen the fd oil pan sits pretty low to the ground and nothing around it to protect it atleast from what i saw from a aftermarket oil pan. So lets say your car is low and being loaded on a ramp, boom pan hits ramp and makes a leak and when the car is started- pressure starts shooting it out. Thats my theory

or it was probably an oil cooler line that decided to pop after sitting for an extended period. odd coincidence it sounds like. rather than assume they did something it should be checked out and the source found before making assumptions.

Did you happen to know the mileage before you left and is it significantly more now? That'd tell you if it was driven any (or how much gas was in it).

Yea what he said, If you have a place to do this try taking your car up some ramps and take a look at the underside. It's likely it's one of the oil cooler lines or maybe a turbo oil line that is leaking. Personally I think it may be one of the former, as the return line is pretty much under where the filler tube is.

I hear few stories that start off like this....If you leave your FD to someone else and then find out that it leaks oil, usually means that they must of put the pedal to the metal and have a joyride.

Lets just hope it is not one of your plates that cracked due to detonation.

come on dude, even if you are the most inexperienced mechanic I would think your capable of putting the car on jack stands and getting a look for your self, you would learn a little as well, you keep saying your so scared just get under there and take a good look it really easy to get an idea of where oils coming from, you can check your oil level ad some if necessary then, then have some one start or turn over the engine while you look real quick making sure car is completly secure on the jack stands this well save you some frustration and that way you know what to tell the mechanic, good luck though

Initially I thought it was an oil line too, but you’ve said something I never knew occurred. Plates crack due to detonation? The intermediate/end plates? Those “crack”, like holing a piston? If so, shouldn’t the poster be able to see the oil spraying from the driver’s side top of the block – where the oil follows a path through the housings from the oil filter back to the front cover?

well I would love to take a look under there myself believe me, but I just started working the day before the car got here and they have been working me like a dog, I leave when I wake up, and its dark when I get back. I dont have much time for anything, but as soon as I can and its daylight still I will take a look.

and like I said, when the car was coming down the ramps on the truck, it looked to me like it was coming from the oil pan, and it did not hit the ground when it was unloaded all the way. and the oil is not shooting out, its more like a slow steady flow. at first it seemed also that it was only leaking while running, but I glanced at the parking space my car is in now and there is a pretty nice puddle of oil (not 4 quarts worth or anything, it just looks like it leaked some more after it was parked)

also since nobody answered this yet, I am still needing to know where there is a good rotary shop in or near las vegas. thanks

you can talk to steve (gonzz). he's out there. otherwise, i think i'm about the closest--and i'm like 3 hours away.

if you can wait a few weeks, or maybe after sevenstock, i'll probably be making a trip out there to drop sam's 1st gen off. i could probably have a look at it then.
