NEED to borrow SPRING COMPRESSOR in SD

So anyone want to help me install my struts/shocks n springs? or anybody want to let me borrow their spring comp? I ask autozone if I can borrow it and they told me it would be $53 for them to loan it. I thought they cost around 20-30 to buy it? Not sure but yeah.......HELP!

spring compressor

went to autozone today. They charged me $40.00 for the spring compressor. They said that if I bring it back, I get a full refund. That's usually how it works.

just aim it away from your eye and you're golden. i did my springs/shocks at a shop where we had one and i still didn't use it except to get them on the new shocks. its faster to just impact the top[ bolt off and let it fly.

werd, i've done it many times without a spring compressor. stock springs are soft as pillows, easy to hold down. but if you still dont want to try it, then pay autozone what they ask and they'll return your money back when you return the spring compressor.

I don't understand how someone can have enough money to buy a set of springs/shocks... and not enough money to buy a $20 tool to install them.

yeah... like mentioned.. pepboys is a great place to rent.. and get ur $ back.

but if its aftermarket springs... it shouldn't shoot out like it would with stock springs....

stockers WILL take someone's eye out or leave a really nasty bruise when hit

Yeah, people seem, to think that they shoot off at like a million mph or whatever.. not true! they only shoot off at like 95mph.

no seriously, just aim it away from your face.. or! try this

put the spring together, and put it on the car without the spring being "compressed" yet lower the car, and watch the magic of the spring compressing...

and dude.. fucken awesome! im in somebodies sig!

If youre gonna impact it off. you at least need someone to stand on the shock and the spring. Ive done it that way a few times before when i didnt have a spring compressor. It really isnt bad at all, it just pops off the shock into pieces, but nothings ever gone flying.

I guess it all depends on how compressed the spring is when it is mounted on the shock. The key is to do very small burst with the impact gun, that way the spring has a chance to decompress a little before it actually comes off.

Disclaimer: Use that info at your own risk, Dont try this at home, if you do get an eye poked out or some other injury or damage, I take no responsiblity. haha

Just go pay for the deposit for the spring compressor at autozone. You get all your money back when u return it so its basically free. All its saying is if you dont bring it back, you bought it, and they got money for a new one.

If you guys are in any way serious, you're ******* nuts. For $20 you're willing to risk injury...

After you do the springs, you're gonna want to get an alignment. Otherwise your tires may get chewed up from the alignment changes associated with taking your suspenion apart.

here is another way to think of it: The spring compressor they rent you is a piece of crap, and if you don't know what you're doing (as in eye protection etc. because you've done it a million times so you know its a piece of crap) you can get hurt because you're naive.

Throw a big blanket on it. When the end of the strut is peeking out, just like the stupid cat that walks on your car every night.... sneak up on it with an impact gun and spin it ccw. it will blow up about 10 inches in each direction and stop.

You can squish the tein back on with your hands. If not just give them a call.
