LS1 engine change

How hard is it to put an LS1 in an RX7? Is there someone that can point me in the right direction for this information? Thanks

What generation? Search the forum, there are plenty of threads out there. Its not that difficult for fd's and FC's.. There are already adapter kits outhere.

I dont think any one has ever done it before. It would take a lot of work and costly custom fab work. I dont think in the end it would be worth it.

Also check out, http://www.torquecentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11

And rx7what, I hope your joking thinking it would not be worth it.. 400rwph with a few mods and it will be reliable as hell.. and it only weighs about 50 more then a 13b-rew with stock twins.

Andrewsduiz is actually swaping a ls1 into a FC, talk to him. He might be able to give some more info and what he is doing.

Ls1 swap

First of all, Welcome to the Forum.
The link you want is www.justsayno.com
Just kidding. I don't know how long you have owned a 7 but let me give you some advice.
If you are new with owning a 7, I recommend the following.
Drive the car for awhile and enjoy it. Make sure ALL the mechanicals are in Good working order.
From brakes to fluids to ignition to suspension and so forth.
If you decide to do it(hope you don't) then research the crap out of it and make yourself a
check list of ALL the parts you will need to convert Before you start.
The most important thing is to have another car to drive, because yours will be down a long time, lol.

I am actually doing a ls1 swap in my garage right now for my best friend. Not on my fd................well not yet.

I would recomend the hinson subframe.

Oh yeah My rotory FD makes more than 400 rwhp.

An LS1 swap in an FD is easy. I have never done anything this extensive, just your basic oil change, spark plug/wire change. Basically I had no clue about anything. With some time searching torquecentral I learned just about what it takes to do the swap.

There is no fabrication needed whatsoever to get the ls1 in, just as long as you use Hinson's setup. You will have to take teh car to a muffler shop, though, to get the exhaust system fabbed up.

Wiring was not that hard, but can be intimidating if you don't do your research. Trust me, everything you need to know is on torquecentral; if you're still lost after searching you can pm any of the guys on there as they wont bite.

From experience, don't do any cam swap until you get the car running. I didn't listen to that suggestion, so I have to sort out my tune before I can actually drive the thing around town.

Good luck!

Wow, wacky agreed on something that's completely inaccurate !

If I were to try and stick a 3 Rotor into a Supra... you guys would be all over that like white on "Rice" (Pun Intended) but somehow removing the rotary is sacrilege ? Hippocrates !!!!

Let the man do what he wants with his property....

see sig 11.42@127.4mph on road race suspension and 91 octane low 20's mpg on the highway with 6 speed.

The car absolutely rips! If you have the $$$... build one.

Ha! I'm glad to see there has been no takers for the above fishing for a fight expedition. If people spent all the time wrenching on their cars that they spend getting in these pissing contests, all these cars would probably be on the road instead of in the garage in pieces!

a lot of factors can play a role in not letting someone finish their projects.

some people work (like me 9-5 - monday through friday), certain parts are holding them back (i.e. waiting for parts), or the conditions don't allow it for those that don't have a garage (dark, extremly cold, snowing, etc.), or simply because they are short on money and building the car as they are being able to.

half of these parts are all custom parts, not mass produced. at one point the waiting standpoint for a subframe was 3-5 months!

edit: no one is picking for a fight, 90% of the people that have chimed in are udergoind or have done the swap to their own cars, they are just being a-holes

Check out this forum

I've been researching the **** out of doing this engine swap for over a year now.

Having been in a couple FD/LS1s now I can tell you they are wickedly fast. Handling obviously is not a problem (see GNX7s description).

TorqueCentral seems to be the main forum for doing these swaps, try asking your questions on that site => http://www.torquecentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11
