Let's look at it this way.

I'll draw a start line and then a Finish line. First one to go from the start to the finish is the winner and the judge can go drink antifreeze. I don't need a judge to tell me who crossed the line first.

I don't think that's what he's saying. I have no idea what he's trying to say, but I'm pretty sure that it's not that drifting is a faster way around a track. I think it has something to do with judging based on style??

Ok, One more time.

We're kids at the beach. I draw a line in the sand and then walk down the beach 50 yards and draw another line in the sand.

I say let's race from this line to that line (Racing) and you say Ok but let's say you have to do a Pirouette every third step and the Body Builders are gonna tell us who looked better doing it.(Drifting)
