Looking for advice how to handle an issue with a shop
#27
To update everyone and once again i will state and make clear, this was not a thread intended to bash/flame Angel Motorsports but solely how to appropriately assess the situation. Situation has been handled by both parties. My car is now at the west coast location and scheduled to have my motor rebuilt and re installed. John was very helpful and together we talked about this thread professionally. Cheers everyone!

That’s awesome! Glad to hear everything has gone well for both parties, kinda weird tho, I’ve read a couple threads about similar situations, and they all seem to add up to the shop defending themselves on the thread (which who wouldnt) and then the customers car being done within a week or so after that. I’d like to find out what makes the customer go from waiting months/years to car done in a couple weeks, whether it’s shop related or customer related. Just seems to be a common theme

Yeah. It boggles my mind how something can go on with no action for years and then a. Thread gets posted and the shop tries to defend themselves and magically finishes in a week. I'd be super worried about quality at that point. A paying customer losing years of time while a shop already spent their money elsewhere. And then finally "makes good". What about years lost enjoying the car the customer spent their money on? That is worth something that they won't get back.

Shops have alot of cars that get worked on. All the big shops have at least a 6 month back log. There's always circumstances . Some cars take longer than others. I've had people complain that 3 weeks is too long I've had cars take over a year and no problems because of how big the builds are. I'm grateful to alot of my customers that come to us and are patient. Rotary shops are not jiffy lube theres far and few in between and they have a huge concentration of cars.

A shop is a business. If they set a timeline and don't live up to it (or reset customer expectations), then they are not treating it like a business.
If it's a big build and you tell a customer it's going to take a year, and that customer agrees to it, then great.
Don't make an excuse due to it being a rotary. A rebuild does not take that long and you should communicate your backlog when accepting work. What happened to the customer in this thread would not be acceptable if it were me.

This problem here is more of a miscommunication and misunderstanding. The California shop was under the impression that they were waiting on the customer to continue. Both parties are on the same page car is getting shipped to the shop to be finished since the only thing there was an engine. You guys have a good day

Update, as of 5/21/19 and vehicle work completion continues pending. We were waiting for studs to come in from Elite in March which did come in but now i got word we are waiting on dowel pins to come in from Elite. Thankfully my engine has been ported, housings resurfaced and polished, and also painted. Although i do have to say i expected completion much sooner, i am definitely losing motivation and desire to keep this vehicle. Lately i’ve been contemplating putting the my hopes and dreams of this rx7 on hold and leaning on the idea of selling her and getting something budget friendly and newer. i’ll be keeping this thread updated until i have her back home completed.

Your feeling are typical for a FD owner who has had a bad experience with a shop. I have been through two shops that screwed me over. I almost sold my car. My last leap of faith was Kilo Racing in Fl. He rebuilt my car in 2016 and I have driven it worry free since then. When I drove out his shop with my car I quickly realized why I did not sell. These cars will only increase in value and suggest you keep it even if it is just for weekends. These are my thoughts based on my experiences and everyone persons situation is different for sure. Just don't do anything you might regret. The hardest thing about an Fd is finding someone who does good honest work in a timely mater. I found one and I am happy. Brap on

Not sure if you knew but John closed a month ago to attend a family thing in Virginia. And he drove from Virginia back to California arriving a couple days ago.Elite did not ship the parts because he was out of town so nothing wrong on their end they where waiting for him to get back to California.

Time to sling some more internet ****. Go post on facebook or one of the other big instant gratification forums and put them on blast and I'm sure they'll re-appear. I have no doubt they're on there hourly. Dont think these meatheads wont dick you over for a full year on this part of the rebuild, they did to a friend of mine to the point he finally got his car after a 2+ year total runaround and just sold it.
Poking them with a stick wont work, need to hit them with a bat to get their attention.

Hello all my socal and nationwide friends. I’m looking to see if anyone has any useful advice for me in terms of handling an issue with a shop. So here’s some background...April 2017 i paid in FULL in CASH my engine rebuild, assembly balance, housing resurface, etc. basically a full on motor build. It’s now 2019 and i STILL do not have my motor built. I’ve seen plenty of other cars engines being done before mine who were paid for way after mine was. I recently talked to the shop about my motor and tried to be as professional as can be without letting my emotions into it stating i need a date when my block will be ready for me . The shop replied “mid January i will have it ready for you, we just kind of put your build to the side because we saw no effort on your side” but my question is WHAT EFFORT? i paid in FULL so what EFFORT was needing on MY SIDE if all i paid for was a full motor build. Any additionals like fuel system, single turbo, etc is my concern and my business if i was going to purchase for my build. Anyone have any advice how i should handle this without really escalating a situation? The shop is unprofessional, and tries to behave like we are friends, teases/trys joking around with me about my posts/parts but we are not friends and that is extremely unprofessional. Anyone have any useful advice as to how to handle this situation? Thank you for your time.
Skeese is right. Type up a detailed narrative or screenshot this thread and share your experience on social media for others to see. This is total BS- there is no reason a paying customer should experience what you have.
Mike/rx7Vargas, I respect you and genuinely feel like you have made great changes to your shop and business practices here in VA. At some point you need to stop making excuses for your brother and tell him to get it together. It's been since 2017!!!!!
