They will get you even for primer and peeling paint. That is my old car that I had to sell...I was being pulled over left and right for my sucky paint job.

True. but remember you need to register it with the DMV on the color change and have them reissue you a new vin # and plate. The processing fees alone were over $1000.

but honestly I agree that patroling officer will pull you over if he finds out your car is a different color than it states in your pink-slip.
And if he had a bad day at work he will find other things on your car that are "illegal".

At least in Serbia-Montenergo (Europe) you can take police officer to a bar for a couple rounds, but again we are in Cali...hehe

I dont know what you guys been through, but I painted my FD a different color and had no problem with any law... Just remember to report it to the DMV about it that's all. I didn't have to pay any fee either... I just told them I got into a car accident, and it was cheaper to repaint it a different color...
Here's California DMV number for those that are interested... Just find out for yourself if it's illegal or not.!!!

Guys I have to tell you. My Fc started it's life a red color. After I received an exhibition of speed ticket in jackson for drifting I painted the car white. I soon received another ticket for the same thing. Nothing was said about my paint. I then Painted the car yellow and to this day I have not had any problums with my car being painted. I live in Sacramento California, cops here suck ***.

Bottom line it's not illegal to paint different color. Just report it to DMV during renewal of registration or whenever...I live in Sacramento too.

Onlyonthurs,

Indeed, it is only a California thing. If you are in Texas, you are quite lucky and do not have to be concerned with such irrational laws.

Sounds like the cops just didn't like you, I was driving around an 84 Ford Crew-cab Dually with basicly no paint just rust for about 5 years and never got a ticket for the paint, now the 90 in a 55, countless registration tickets and unsafe lane change are another story.

thats the biggest BS i ever heard. I drove around with my spray painted black primered REPU all over LA for many years with no problem. Loud, lowered and ugly as hell.

If thats the case, then my neighbors in East Los will have a riot
